tattoos: good or bad for your children?

some cultures can't go without tattoos. tattoos can play many roles: identification, tribal labeling, documentation. on the other hand, most parents do not like their children getting tattoos. do you think tattoos are good? or are they bad for your children? what if your kids are no longer minors, does that change anything?

I think it's a personal choice, at the end of the day it's your own body to do with what you wish. However, personally i feel a tattoo is something you shouldnt rush into because of it being popular, it's something you live with proberley for the rest of your life. My own will be either one i've designed tht symbolises something, or one i pick tht has a meaning to me. Tattoos express a person, usually who they are, what they've been through, stages in life... usually rebellious years. It could be something bad or something good. I don't think you should be labelled for having one though or restricted by society. I think especially when your children are no longer minors you have to be prepared to see them become an adult in their own way, you can't stunt every decision they make - especially like a tattoo, it's going to stifle them. Be prepared to maybe dissapprove and lecture on it, but it;s something they can't remove so there's no point holding a grudge against it. Step in on the major decisions in life like crime, or them needing help. Tattoos i feel, are so highly critised and yet it's the tiniest problem in society.

yep, that's true. but it seems all my friends (who are parents) do not want tattoos on their children. i think it's because tattoos can become a soource of judgement and not because they themselves think tattoos are "dirty" or anything. they know that if their children have tattoos, other people (employers, etc) will have that against them. some jobs here even have that as a requirement: nurses here are not supposed to have any "large marks" on their body. happy myLotting! :)

i believe we both have the same opinion when i say perhaps tattoos should not be judged as good or bad - at least not absolutely. different tribes use tattoos as a way of remembering important events and people, so that's good. on the other hand, there's the rebel adolescent who simply wants to go against his parents' wishes, so he gets a tattoo saying "my parents suck." now that's bad. hehe.
