My son just got married. I couldnt believe the cost of it. I want to know how many out there are going threw this and why is it so exspensive. Makes a parent want to start saving for a wedding when a child is still in diapers...

Weddings are very expensive. That's why we got married at the court house.

We are doing a wedding & reception at the same place. My first wedding was at a court house. I vowed not to do that when I got married again.

My parents decided to foot the bill for our wedding. The budget was $5K. In reality it is more like $6k. From what I understand our wedding is going to be fairly inexpensive. Quite a few of our expenses were increased by choices that my Dad or Mom wanted.

I saw that happen with my sons wedding with the mother of the Bride. The woman turned into Mother of the Bridezilla

was it just what you wanted or would you have done anything different? Sounds like it must have been beautiful

Yup... I am getting married in april, I must say that the wedding vendors definitely have the monopoly on this industry. They think all couples are stupid because most of us have never done it before. I have given myself a limit... My dad met this one guy who shelled out $40,000 for his daughters wedding! Never.

When my husband and I got married about 3 years ago, it ran us and our parents about $12,000. It was very expensive but worth every penny. If your going to try to cut corners, try not to do it on the dress or the photographer. When you look back those are the two things that most people say they wish they had put more money into. I work at a bridal shop and too many brides try to cut costs with the dress. It should be one of the most important details.

I just got married 6 months ago and it is SO expensive! We pulled our wedding off with only spending about $5,000.00 but that was with cutting A LOT of corners and because we had great friends in differenc business that did the flowers, cake and such at cost. If you need any money savings tips let me know! Although inexpensive our wedding wasn't ghetto at all and was really nice.

Wedding is a thing that's going to wip your pockets out , but the way I see it is your duty too happiliy give it away, but then if you have exra cash for it it doesnt bother but as i can tell it's better morethan having a too grand wedding, it's better that you cut down the expenses and save the money for the future after he she gets married and for the commitments come forward on living a peacefull life, and another sad part is that he, or she; son or daughter which stays with the parents for twenty years and carring and bringing up all of a suden will be apart and start a new life after they have been wed, that's life, as the same way your parents too well it the same way, it's call the circle of life, which is gifted by the 'Hand That Is Divine"

my wedding cost about $10,000. You have to shop around to get good deals and though a wedding planner can get discounts on some things, you end up saving more by just doing it all yourself. That's what I did!

I agree with previous posters...the photgrapher is VERY important. Check them out thoroughly before agreeing to something just because it is cheap. My photographer was $2200...it included 6 hours (though she stayed just as long as we did) and we got the copyrights to all of photos! We had around 250 people at our wedding.

They're very expensive! My wedding is probably going to end up costing $30,000 when all is said and done in a couple months. We also have 250+ people to feed, host and cater to. The more people the more expensive. But, it's what we both really want, so we're going to make the most of it!

I got married 9 months ago. My parents paid for everything, but it was only about $2000. Everything was just what we wanted, and we didn't feel like anything was left out. We had about 200 people at our wedding, lots of food, and it was all beautiful. It was more work, though. We had to decorate, and then clean everything. My family all pulled together to fix the food. My dress was gorgeous, and it was actually a bridesmaid dress! Anyway, it was the best and most beautiful day of my life, and it is all paid for...no one is still trying to pay the bills.

Thanks for the warning.....my son is still in diapers! As for the cost of a wedding, I know how expensive it can be but honestly, I'm saving for the kids college education first. IF we can't afford a big wedding at the time, then it'll have to be a small one. That's just the way it will have to be! I know when I got married, my parents offered me a choice of a big wedding or cash and although I would have rathered to have the cash, I knew how much my mother wanted to see me have a big wedding so that's what I had!

My first wedding I was 16 and we got married at the court house. Nothing fancy the only thing is cost us was our marriage license and the rings. My 2nd wedding which was in april 2005 my hubby wanted a nice wedding and we cut alot of corners and had a nice wedding for 6000.00. We paid for the wedding ourselves.
