Do you think there is still hope for the Philippines?

I've read an email expressing rants of the current political system in the Philippines. The author is expressing her dismay about Gloria Arroyo going to another country to attend a leader forum while the prince of Brunei is still in the country. She says that how can the President go out of the country when she was the one who scheduled the Prince of Brunei's visit. She also said why Gloria opted to go to a meeting that seems not that important because even Barack Obama snobbed that meeting to do more important business to his country. I do not read much of current events because what I always read are these sorts of rants. Do you honestly believe that Philippines will be able to have a clean political system in the future? I still hope so but I am not betting on it that much.

I believe so, that is only if those who are really sincere on helping the country to get over the current situation. The problem with the Philippines is not only the people running the political system but also those who instead of doing something to contribute to help decided to keep quiet.

exactly my point, these people who had stoop up were fighting all by themselves while others (with me included) were just hoping they would succeed. Too bad all we could do is hope and pray.

Most of the people who decided not to keep quiet already ended up six feet under.

i do believe that there's still hope for the Philippines economically and also in political aspects. We just need to think many times to vote for the right person to be elected. I beleive that the economics will rise if we will have a just and unselfish leaders to lead us. We have plenty of resources to use and Filipinos are smart and intelligent enough to make things work out. We only need unity and have one goal for our own good and for the country.

Even if do elect the "right" person , were not gonna be able to replace everybody. Someone with a bad intention will still be left in our political system. Its sad, but its reality.

The reason why political system in the Philippines never change is because we go on circles. From the president below to the baranggays and then baranggays to the president again. The Philippines were united on the first EDSA People Power and then on Estrada's and then where is the Philippines today. Although I admit Gloria may have been good on the economy side since Gloria is an economist herself, there are still many issues regarding corruption that is being linked to her name and her husband.

I hope so too marisriel, but I think the Philippines will have a hard time achieving that. Even if we replace President Arroyo...cleaning the political system will still be a problem.

It will take a miracle and a saint maybe to be able to clean the political system in the Philippines.

I still pray and hope that our corrupt leaders will change someday. But i guess, Only God knows when. :D Maybe the best thing to do is to mold our own children to do what is good and what is right not only for themselves but also for others and a God-fearing citizens . So that when they grow up no more corrupt officials or at least there are only few of them. :D . Maybe when the next election comes, pray, think, re-think and reflect on who to vote for the sake of our country and for the future generations.

You have a good insight Anna, unfortunately, a good percentage of our country thinks otherwise. Good citizens in the Philippines, either work abroad after they graduate or get rich and then also go abroad eventually.

I'm already 24 years old - an unregistered voter! Even if I want to vote, I'm having seconds thoughts. How many leaders have passed, but only numbered are those who did something great to this country! Political aspirants keep on promising that they'd do something "unique" to change Philippine economy. Of course, that's the kind of people everybody wants to lead their country. But once this men are on their seat, nothing happens but repetitive debates and hearings about the same issue, that people get tired of watching, reading, and listening to the news! How could you say Philippine economy will change, if even the present president uses the taxpayers' money to travel abroad, for what? To attend a breakfast that she hasn't been invited to! What a pathetic leader! What a pathetic President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo!
