Is the UK becoming the 'BIG BROTHER' nation ???

The Government is compiling and storing the travel records of millions of Britons. The centre that is doing this is collecting the names, addresses, telephone numbers,seat reservations, travel itineries, credit card usage etc. for an estimated 250 million journeys made both into and out of the UK. The computerized information for ever individual will be stored and kept for up to 10 years. The Government says this action is necessary in the fight against terrorism, illegal immigration and crime. MP's in opposition to this feel that it is a major step towards making the UK a surveillance society.
I am inclined to agree with the opposition. What do you think?

I believe that much of this IS necessary to insure our safety from terrorism.

Yes, the UK is a big nanny state, and the US is not far behind it. Many other countries are implementing simmilar "policies". I think that the people have given control of their lives over to the state in exchange for benefits, free health care, etc
