If you were in the military, do you think you could kill someone?

So, I'm currently a Jr. in HS and my current plan is to join the USAF as a pilot. It's been my dream for as long as i can remember and there is nothing else I'd rather do. I am currently a student pilot and i love flying. However, being that I am planning on making a career out of the AF, this brings me to the fact that one day, i will probably have to take a decision or take an action that will cost someone their life. Not only that, but, this person could be a very close friend of mine (if i was, hypothetically, in a position of command and made a decision which cost one of my fellow soldiers his life.) I was just wondering, if you are in the military, how did you know that you could actually take someone's life? If you're not, do you think you would be able to? I don't think I'd have a problem with it because I have such a deep faith in my country. Yet, how does one really know for sure?

I will only kill a person when my life is in danger that not killing him will get me kill. i will not kill someone just because i was ordered by my superior, because i am not a robot or killing machine. My conscience will dictate to me what is right and wrong not base on what my boss say. Whatever action i take i have to answer to my God so i am not interested in killing another human being by claiming i am in the military hence i have no choice, it is just lame excuse.

If I was in the military, I could not kill someone, this is why I will never go into the military. Killing someone in the matter of war is something I still can't understand, I mean it is just politicians fighting, not really the people, though they are forced to by the politicians. I am sure people from both sides fighting each other would get along if there was not a war. The people that have to fight are the innocent ones, just like us. Now if someone came into my home with horrible intentions to harm or kill me, I would kill them before they could get the chance to kill me. In war the people you are fighting are not trying to kill you in that sense, for pleasure, they are just forced to. I hope you understand what I mean!

I have a buddy who had to kill in service. He said it was tough but they did it at such long range it wasn't really like doing it if that makes sense. I could tell it did kind of bother him though. I am sure if it was my job to do it, especially for the right cause and if it meant me or him then I would but I would probably have some issues dealing with it long after it was over.
