Do people online give you nicknames based off of your online username?

I've had several nicknames in my childhood. I used to be called "RED" because of my complexion. I used to be called "KID" because I looked younger than my real age all my life. But since I've started interacting with people online, they have given me other nicknames based off of my username online. For instance, some folks will call me "HD", "HDJ" or they will refer to me by my full username "hdjohnson." Other people won't refer to my user names at all though, because they know my first name. I don't mind it as long I know the person. It's interesting because of the fact that the whole reason why we are able to chose usernames, is to be creative or create an alternative name for ourselves, which may not be anywhere near our real identity names. So what's your lifelong nickname story, do you know why people used to call you the nicknames that they did?
