Does myLotting help with writer's block?

There's lots of advice a round about overcoming writer's block. Making writing a habit and writing in small bursts are two of the suggestions that seem to come up often. So I reckon working in myLot should help. I frequently come here when I want a break for article writing, especially when I feel stale or can't think where to go with it next. Usually I can go back afterwards and write more, so I guess it works for me. What do you think?

Yes, I would say that myLot can help greatly with writer's block. Very often I am thinking that I need to post something to my blog because I haven't done so for some time. Then I come on to myLot and get answering posts and something pops into my consciousness about what I can write on my blog. :-)Derek

I would think that taking your mind away for a little vacation in mylot would help. I don't know for sure because I don't consider myself enough of a writer to have writer's block. Cheers!!

Hi there Jakill,
Like you, I too use Mylot in between my other more formal writing. So I suppose in that way you could say that it helps me overcome writer's block but on the other hand, I find that my writing has suffered tremendously since I found Mylot. I spend less time on my other projects because I say to myself "I'll just answer a few discussions..." and then poof 3 hours later I realize that I'm hungry.
So sometimes for me Mylotting is a contributor to my writer's block rather then a solution for it.
Until next time, happy Mylotting!

Often I use MyLot as a "treat." I will write an article, which takes me quite a long time, then I will come over here and take a little break, usually looking at the Writing and/or Reading Sections on MyLot.
The good thing is usually (unless I am trying to get some specific information...as when I was setting up my blog) I don't stay for too long.

I've never used MyLot for writer's block, but whatever works for you is good. I am beginning to see with myself that if I write every day it helps keep writer's block under control. I am just programming myself to write on a regular basis.
That said, I have found a lot to help me on MyLot, especially in the Writing and Blogging sections. I love following the discussions and see what new ideas or sites people have to share.
Good luck with your writing!

I've read the "Artist's Way" and also Cameron's book "The Sound of Paper," which is good too (well, not as good as "Artist's Way but still enjoyable). People have different writing strengths and weaknesses, and consistency is a real problem of mine. Making it a habit doesn't give me as much of an excuse that I will "do it later." Thanks for your comment!

Hi there,
I think the idea of getting yourself into a regular writing routine is a very good idea. Perhaps, I should take my own advice! I have not done in awhile but when I read what you wrote I was shaking my head yes. I was in the practice of writing daily and I found that the very practice of writing, even if it was nonsense or writing exercise or some rough outlines. I found it easier with repetition, of course some days were better than others and I did some good stuff and other not so good stuff but that is the way they it goes with writing.
I once had a creative writing teacher who said that you're not a writer unless you actually write every single day. I'm not sure whether I agree with his statement 100% or not because quite frankly, I'm guilty of not writing every day myself but, practice can definitely be an asset and something to strive for.
As I'm writing this response I'm reminded of the book "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron, I'm not sure if you've read it or not but it's a daily creative writing program with the use of morning pages and other tools like an artist date.
I think getting back to a program like that is probably a good idea for me… Thank you for reminding me that I need to give myself a kick in the butt if you will, and get myself back into the writing groove.
Until next time, happy Mylotting!

Mylot helps me with writer's block. If I can't think of anything to write about, I come to Mylot. Mylot even started me on a new story idea (about merpeople, breeding, and global warming of all things and if I hadn't come to Mylot on that day that story would never have existed.

Yes, myLot has helped me with writer's block a LOT. Recently, I couldn't figure out what to write for a blog I have to post on three times per week, and surfing through myLot helped me find an idea to write about. It was a great way to break through and get working!

Yes, it does act as a respite from writing, like some sort of diversion from serious writing. In here, you don't have to edit everything you say. you could directly type your thoughts on the discussions. Cheers and happy mylotting.

I also write articles for my affiliate marketing business. Well i just signed up here in mylot a few hours ago and i could say that it definitely helps. I've heard of this before but i thought writing here would just waste my time. I'd rather work on my articles. I was just so burned out a while ago that i found myself signing up here in mylot. People here seems nice and i can't help sharing my thoughts to the interesting topics here. Looks like it worked well for me because when i get back to my articles, my mind is refreshed and ready again to put on great ideas for my articles. I'll be a regular here in mylot from now on.
