DJ or band, at a wedding?

My friend recently had a wedding and there was a live band playing all night. I found it really nice and sweet, much better then DJ replacing CDs. What did you have on your wedding? Or if you are not married, what would you prefer?

I think I want to have a band. A string quartet maybe because it seems more romantic to hear live music. But these bands are quite expensive to have in a wedding so I really have to save a lot to fulfill my dream wedding. I might opt renting a dj instead and have him play a cd compilation of all of our favorite songs.

well today's fact is that, Dj can make people dance and yes its fun. But try me you will get bored always hiring a dj to a wedding. Its a different emotion altogether in a band.

My fiance and I are going to have a dj of sorts. That is to say that we are going to be using the church were getting married at's sound system, and I think but am not certain that someone from the church will be there to do the dj'ing so to speak. I think that it's a great idea to be honest, and that a live band while nice as well won't have the same sound as the songs that we like for our wedding, and are used to. There's romanticism in the voice of the original singers, ya know. Although I'm not sure that all of the songs are sung by the original singer, I think the majority of them are... even so, it's familiarity over band playing. I appreciate this discussion. I saw it had no responses, and decided to help you out. I hope you have a great day mylotting.

For the wedding, I think I would like a band. They would have to know a lot of music though. I think a band would give a wedding a nice feel.
