Accident Repercussions

As a lot here know I was involved in an accident just before Thanksgiving Day. I had over $7,000 damage repaired on my 2005 Buick LeSabre. I was not injuured etc as my friends here know. The day I picked up my car I did a walk around checking that everything was done up to par. The first thing I noticed was there was just 1 hood holder. Those hydraulic lift things. I was assured by their technician there's onl;y one needed so I left it at that. Now I am lazy and do not do repairs to my car. I take it to get the oil changed etc. One day I took it to get the oil changed and they mentioned I needed another hood replacemnt l;ift as one was missing. DUHJHHH! So today I took the car back to the body shop that did the work. After a little debating the manager realized I was in the right. So they are ordering the part and will install it free of charge when it's arrived. Ever have problems with auto repairs/body work that had to be taken back due to their screw up?

We took our car once to a dealer body shop to get something checked out. He didn't do a walk around since it had nothing to do with the outside of the car. When we picked it up, we went out to my husband's brother's house. He then found that they had knocked out one of the front head lights! We knew they had done it since it was a round hole made by one of those roll around buggies they use with the big pole on the front. This was an expensive headlight in a Cadillac. My husband took it right back down there and showed them. Since it had some yellow paint on it, they knew it had been done there. Well, they ordered the part and put it on when it came in. My husband said that, if we ever had to go back again, that almost $400 would be on the bill! Sure enough, when we took it in for something else, they had added the exact amount on the bill for something else. They are ALL dishonest!

I check my car out totally even after just an oilo change mostly because of the same thing you had happen. Get it found right away to avoid the hassles later. Never know what they do to the cars now days once in the garage area etc.

well, barb, most people are becoming dishonest these days. this is the reason why we always become very appreciative of those ones who are trustworthy.
my brother always complains of how those people in the body shop try their best to cut on whatever they can at all times. however, since he knows a good deal about car maintenance, he notices what is missing and what's wrong when he checks on the car upon reaching home. usually, it takes some two to three more trips to the body shop before his standard for the job at hand is met.

My husband tries to do everything he can on our cars because of the dishonest shop workers. Someone backed into me in WalMart parking lot one afternoon and did damage to my bumper and one of my lights on my Cadillac. We took it to several different body shops. The first one said it would cost around $1,400 or so and the second one said around $600. My husband fixed it for absolutely nothing except a little prizing with the hands to get the light back in the place where it should have been and he got the bumper back in place. They were going to rip us off. We sold the car two years ago to our insurance man! He couldn't even tell it had ever been hit.

Yeah, remember the accident.
Once after picking up a car from the shop, I was stopped by the police because my rear lights/brake lights weren't working. Turned out that the shop had forgotten to reattach the lights.
Also, after my hail damaged was fixed, they hadn't replaced the 3rd light - had it sitting on the rear deck, but not installed. I pointed it out and the guy took it back and fixed it right away.

Good deal.
This was a major pain for me as the hood would fall as I tried adding washer fluid.

oh, lucky me. my younger brothers take care of everything that has to do with cars and trucks. and, there is another help coming from our most trusted farm manager. with the three of them around, i am hassle free about car and truck maintenance.
sometimes i get involved, of course. but my part will always be the tail ends only. the burdensome portions of the tasks are all for them to take care of. i try to understand their language when they talk about the maintenance of the vehicles. yes, grandpa bob, i am so very ignorant when it comes to this matter. i am just a mere runner to buy the needed parts or articles or, to pick up some needed materials.

My son-in-law is good with cars. Well I though he was until......
HAHAHA! He did my brakes one day and on the drive home, about half way home the brakes locked into place on the freeway. Seems he messed up badly. Noone injured but my wife and I sat in the car along the highway wioth cars whizzing by at 60 MPH for an hour waiting for him to come repair his screw up. HAHAHA!

I got my oil changed at Walmart once and they broke a bolt that held the oil pan on. I had to walk over to the auto parts store and buy the part then they reimbursed me for it. After some heated discussion, they agreed to give me the oil change for free. I never went back to Walmart for oil changes again!
I'm glad you got the other lift part, I think maybe the mechanic was just lazy.

Thank Goodness you had an honest Auto Body manager unless your laws are different out there. I have never been in a wreck so have never had to deal with this type of thing, but I have known of many people finding things not right after the fact and later find out it is clearly listed on the release form you need to sign that it is the customers responsibility to make sure you're 100% happy. I have heard of things like a piece of chrome missing, hub cap missing and other stuff I can't remember right now so like I said Thank Goodness. It's awful to say but it's getting harder all the time to find honest people. As far as the hydrolic hood lift that may have been an honest error, but how do you know? The ieatportant thing is it is being replaced because they are expensive if you had to replace it from the dealership. Have a Great Week. Valentines day is nearly here and all those chocolate bunnies and chocolate kisses will make Grandpa Bob forget all other worries. lol

Well the repairs etc are still under warranty actually. It's a 60 day Warranty. But even so sonce this was mentioned the day I picked my car up also was a huge factopr oin them having no argument as to not to replace it. It was their error etc not mine nor anyone elses. The reasons I know it needs this is this is a large car and the hood is solid steel and very heavy. Just the pone lift on it does not keep the hood open for long as it slowly closes. Plus the book for parts shows 2 parts not one in the photo and description. As far as chocolates, I want to lose and inch or two girth so I am trying my best to cut back on my treats etc. Ugghh!

When I was rammed from behind by some guy who claimed he didn't see me stopped in middle of road with left turn signal on, it was almost totaled but the insurance decided to get it fixed instead of giving me blue book value for it. After I got it back, I noticed the left rear side window was leaking during a storm. Took it back and they claimed there was no leak. Then the trunk started leaking. Again, they couldn't figure out where the leak was coming from. Finally, after taking it back 5 more times, they must of got tired of me coming back so they found the leaks and fixed it. No more problems since then.

My husband and/or son take care of our automobile happenings. It is a good thing the guy at the oil change place mentioned that to you and you went back to the auto repair place and I feel you are very lucky that they are going to fix it for free. My luck they would have argued with me and I would have had to pay for it all.

Tires Plus wanted over $100 to put one in. They order their parts right from the Dealers though not an Auto Parts Store. Unreal. The part costs maybe $30 and takes a minute to snap into place is all. Oh I was not going to pay for this after the damage that was done to my hood. Hahaha!

Sorry to hear this happened to you. Isn't it interesting how something that's minor turns out to be needed after all. It's always good to immediately make a note of it and let the manager now. I'm glad you'll get them to install it for free. Dang, I wouldn't even know what to look for, lol, that's my husband's area to deal with;)

Yes, I have and I had a hard time with the repairmen because they feel like a female don't know what she is talking about and they can give me the run around. Well after I get through clowning , they finishes the job just to get rid of me.
Most of the time now I don't have any problems.

Yup. many times. The mechanics around here are idiots and think they can get away with it. I had a mechanic back my brand new vehicle into a fence when I was watching. He denied that it happened but I saw it with my own eye's. I threw a fit and got my bumper replaced for free and got a free loaner car while they did the work on it. I don't think he works there anymore.

i never did experience such a thing but i was once cheated,my car developed some fault during the drive and as i had no other option,i had to summon a nearby mechanic who said there was some problem with the axle and changed.the next day,we went to our regular mechanic for some other repair work,it was then that he pointed out that the axle was of inferior quality and needed to be changed.i think the previous mechanic took advantage of our ignorance.

When I bought my LaSabre the back panel of the truck behind the back seat was loose and I kept taking it back to get it fixed. I was ill and could not drive at that time so my daughter had to take me in. I finally and to yell and scream to get someone to fix it. There was something else that needed to get fixed but I cannot remember what it was.

Many years ago I had a Yamaha two cylinder motorcycle with 16 valves. It was a hybrid and required specialist servicing and repair. Unfortunately it broke down in a place where there was no specialist and was taken in to a Honda dealer. This guy assured me that he could do the work. Six weeks later I still didn't have the bike back. At last he admitted that he couldn't repair it but still wanted to charge me for the time that he had spent on it and refused to return the bike without payment. So I paid "under protest" had it taken to a Yamaha dealer who repaired it properly and then sent a lawyer's letter with the Yamaha bill to the Honda guy. I got a cheque by return less the cost of removing it from where it had broken down to the garage which I didn't bother to quibble over. The moral is though - don't necessarily believe that someone can do something without evidence!

I havent because of an accident however the fuel pump went in my car like 7 years ago and it took them 4 weeks to even bother to order the part. (til i threw a fit about being stranded ona farm with no car and having to hitch rides to town to get to work they should have given me a loaner as it was under warrante and my warrante said they should)
Same dealership...my dad had major issues with last year when the balewagon flipped while attached to his truck. it twisted the whole back end so they got a new box for it...put it in...took them 8 times repainting it so it stopped rusting right away...they rewired the box...dad went to use the trailer lights soon after he got it back for the 5th time and they hadnt grounded it properly so it burnt the wiring in the truck..then they tried to charge him 3000 dollars for THEIR mistake.
When my car was damaged SGI said u can take it here or here and one option was where i took it the other was this other place and said NO way my family has had nothing but trouble with them. They even take 8 hours to do an OIL CHANGE.

Hi,
sometimes the repair workshop do such things knowingly just to extract some extra profit out of the situation. and some other time they just experiment with the automobiles. and some other time which is rare is they forget to do so...well in your case it shows that they did the mistake knowingly for profit...since everyone has some kind of stories like this .and its quite general in this worl. i had something like in which my repair workshop changed quite a few original spare parts of the engine to some cheap local mades...:( well after the perfermance of the engine went down when i took the car to the companies workshop they pointed out all those parts. and after that there was a law suit and damage was paid by the repair workshop...:)
