my husband and i are big sushi fans! i tried making spicy salmon rolls but i dont have fresh salmon on hand. I just have the frozen ones. I was scared to just thaw it and consume it raw so i cooked it, flaked it and mixed with spicy sauce. it turned out ok but still nothing beats the fresh raw salmon.( i attached a photo of the sushi I made)
do you like sushi?have u ever tried making sushi on your own? ever tried using the frozen salmon?

No, I have never made this before. I have always seen pictures of it. I thought that it looked nasty. But, I noticed that eggs and meat is involved. I saw Salmon. So, I know that it may be something that I would like to eat. I just wonder what all ingredients that they put in this food to make it taste good. I have heard many people saying how they love it. I really want to know more about this type of food.

sushi is a japanese food. they use rice and nori sheets, also, its made of raw salmon or crab or tuna. sometimes, they add avocado, mango and cucumber, it really depends on what kind. there's not much spice in it, you just dip in soysauce, pickled ginger and wasabe. go find a japanese restaurant and check out their sushi bar and see of you like it. =)

I love sushi!! I get strange looks from my friends who don't but I wonder how can you not love this stuff!! I have never tried to make it on my own but I have seen it being prepared before. I do believe it is something I would be able to make I have yet to make the attempt. there is a shop in my area where the Japanese chefs prepare sushi fresh everyday so I just go to them for my California and Dragon Rolls.
How can you not like sushi?

A lot of people around here are just scared to try something new. How can you say you don't like something you've never tried. Myself personally first tried sushi when I was in Junior High School and have loved it since. I could literally eat it everyday though I'd probably get sick. Every once in a while works out for me.

too bad we dont have a Japanese restaurant nearby. You're lucky to have one near you!
About other people not liking sushi, well...they have their reasons, but i hope they give it a try first. I dont like it before because I dont like the idea of eating raw fish, but after I gave it a try, I am totally hooked on eat!

I love eating sushi. I usually eat salmon. One of the best, I should say. If salmon's not available, it's gotta be California Maki.

My hubby and I are Japanese food lovers too! I haven't tried making sushi yet but my sister in law does. We had California Maki on New Year's Eve this year.
I still have to experiment making sushi rice on my own. For now, we just buy fresh frozen salmon from a reputable brand then slice them into sashimi and use Chinese soy sauce and vinegar as dip. Yummy!
But yeah, if fresh raw salmon or tuna is available, those are the best ingredients in making sushi!
Now you made me hungry with the photo you uploaded :p Nice job!

i just cant find a store that sells fresh salmon or tuna round here, so i settled for cooked ones when i make my own sushi, otherwise, we just go out and eat all the sushi we can in benihana. have a great day!

I love sushi! But I haven't ever tried to make it myself. I did buy a cookbook for it for my sister hoping she would make it for me, but she never tried.

Yes! I love sushi so much especially if I am eating it with wasabi and soy sauce. Yummy! We usually make fresh sushi here because we are near the beach. We usually make sushi when we are having parties or having a drinking session. We usually use blue marlin fish. It is expensive compared to other fishes but the taste is really superb.

I've never made sushi on my own, but a lady from one of the chinese places in my area wants to teach me sometime.
I love sushi, but my husband hates it.
I wouldn't consume raw frozen salmon either, I would of cooked it too.

I simply can not eat sushi. I just do not like the dish a bit. The smell and the structure every thing is quite unattractive to me.

It's great that you love China and like cooking different foods. But I just wanted to let you know that your comment is confusing because sushi is Japanese.

I knew there had to be an explanation! I wasn't implying anything but just wanted to let you know that it could confuse some people. Thank you for clearing that up!

hello lipsticknladdles
to be honest with you, i have never tried sushi before. lol i cannot imagine what it would taste like, but i do have to admit that the spicy salmon rolls sounds deilicious. i have seen different people before on FoodNetwork's channel making sushi rolls of different kinds before. and all of them that i have seen, they have all looked good. i guess that one could use any kind of fish that they would like in the sushi rolls? or do you just use the fresh salmon for the sushi rolls? thanks for sharing. i might have to get brave soon and try some sushi rolls the next time that i have a get together or something like that with my friends. also, is there any kind of a homemade dipping sauce that you dip the sushi rolls in?
take care and have a beautiful evening.

try it out sometime and see if you will like it. =)
Different kinds of fish may be used. Others sushi are made of tuna and blue marlin.
I ate spicy tuna sushi once in a restaurant and they put some spicy sauce on it (made of mayonaise, hotsauce and sesame oil). Other than that its usually just wasabi, pickled ginger and soysauce.

Hi, I am hearing first time about "Sushi". Is this veg or non veg. If it is Veg. can you please share the recipe of this dish. I love to cook and eat.

I'm Japanese but born in Canada and I also love sushi. First of all, it's a good thing that the salmon is frozen first because it kills parasites. In fact, I believe the salmon sushi or sashimi you eat at a restaurant must be frozen before being served. So go ahead and use that frozen salmon! Just don't let it sit too long in the freezer before using it. Otherwise, you might have freezer burn.
Just to let you know, the sushi that's described in your discussion is "sushi" per se, but not what you'd find typically at a sushi restaurant in Japan. A lot of these sushi rolls like California Rolls, spicy tuna or salmon rolls and others were invented in North America. I think that's pretty cool!

maybe you can find some place that sells inexpensive sushi so you can try them out. Im sure there are a lot. When I was visiting my aunt in Illinois, we went to a marketplace called Mitsuwa and they have some 8 pcs sushi there for just a little over three bucks.
