Interesting, isn't it? But have you experienced discomfort anywhere in your body after checking e-mails so many times in one hour? I know I have and I was only checking e-mails 5 times in an hour or so.
Then again since I am not employed full time anymore, I don't usually receive e-mails that will require me to check back in an hour. I like e-mails more than phone calls because we can always print it if we forget. Also in work and business environment, having something in writing is convenient, just in case we are dealing with dishonest people.
But checking e-mails more than 5 times in an hour I think that's a bit too much. I won't be surprised if doing that can cause health problems for some people especially if they do that every day. Why can't people just read (and print if necessary) all e-mails at one time? instead of going back and forth checking inboxes in an hour?

It is interesting. Thank you for the post.
I find that checking email every five minutes is a bit much and thank goodness for those whose I.S.P uses
the email addict.
I recall sometime ago, when I too was working on line full time, that my email program would check my email for me,
for whatever interval I set it to check. I would set a tone when a new mail arrived.
This was very handy because I could go into the kitchen and prepare a tea or a bit to eat and not have to be watching,
checking.
I prefer emails rather than phone calls. I don't use a land line myself. I can stand the telephone.
I like emails in that I can just delete them if I don't want them or dislike them. I can block users who I do not
want to receive email from. Sounds somewhat brass? Perhaps but I tend to get a fair amount of junk that seem to get past my junk mail filters.
On the other hand you are brilliant to bring into affect the idea that it is good to have work related documents in writing. Complete with a time stamp as well. This can be really handy in case of any sort of dispute.
I do not have to check my email every five minutes, every hour or two. Each day seems sufficient at this point.
I think anything in excess and on a regular basis, can have negative effects on our health.
I am not sure why people can not just read or print off all email at one time. I suggest that perhaps they check every hour for new mails that they have not read yet.
Perhaps they are waiting for something important, such as a sale, an inquiry about their products or service.
I used to work in other industries as well, where checking email regularly was part of my tasks. It is nice to get a response, from a real person, promptly.
It is nice that checking email is not so pressing anymore.

heard about email addict
sounds like it's a good idea for workplace where people have to check emails regularly
maybe you are right they are waiting for a sale or urgent response
but having email notification will work best since they really don't have to log on and off to check every 2 minutes or so

So there still is such thing as email notification? I agree it is better than having to check your email so often in 40 minutes. Gee.
Email Addict as mentioned in the article presented in your post.
Sounds like the idea thing for those who are constantly checking their email for social reasons as appose to work related.
Thank you for your comment.

actually sorry I meant Email Addict not email notification :)
I don't have it installed here I don't need it
but if I were employed or had a business that requires checking emails that often in an hour, something like EA would become a necessity

I am not email addict. I check my personal email only once per day, or every other day. In my job, I have to communicate with many people from USA and Canada every day.
Sometimes when timing is the issue, I have to check my email once every 5 minutes.
I prefer checking my email than be on the phone for all day long.
HUGS

hi littlemel..well its so stressful to do that..constant repetition really hurt a certain part of your body or constant usage of one particular part can really be bad...sometimes i do take time out for surfing here or even on this site ive been absent for two days i guess..just to relax and do other things.. since i dont have the mood to open or participate here...forcing myself may affect the way i respond to any discussions...

yeah I can't imagine checking emails 40 times in an hr
i mean checking 40 emails is different than checking emails 40 times
there is only 60 minutes in an hr, so 40 times on and off?
so many repetitions in one hr
