I was trying to know whats the meaning of true happiness. And came across a book titled "The art of happiness" by Dalai Lama. Did anyone got a chance to read that. I am gonna get it. Btw there is a good quote on the book, that says "Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional".

There are DVD's titled "The Four Noble Truths". It is the Dalai Lama talking about Buddhism and how to find peace of mind. It is on my Netflix list and will be coming soon. I am not Buddhist, am wanting to see it for the wisdom the Dalai Lama gives and for knowledge. You can find it on Amazon.
True happiness is different for everyone. Look into your heart to see what it is that you really need to make you happy..not what you really want to make you happy. If you're not sure, research..pray..discuss..think. What you perceive as happiness today, may not be tomorrow. Don't base happiness on other people's lives either for everyone has their rough places to cope with.
Happiness is contentment with what has been given to you in life even when things seem bad. It is wisdom to recognize what really matters. Focus on the gains, not the problems.

i have never encountered the book that you have mentioned here. however, i have a resolve, years ago, that i will lead a happy life from then on.
what happens now is, i always see at the lighter side of life at all times. yes, it is true that life is happier lived this way.
there are problems, they can never be avoided in our day to day living. nonetheless, our optimistic attitude in life, makes it all much lighter to deal with.
so, let us lead a happy and lighter life, cogentprash. you will find that life is never that difficult to deal with.
