When I was still in grade school and high school, I always join Taekwondo tournaments all over my country and win some medals. Wining some medals made me known in my schools. It also helped become one of the team sent to compete in national tournaments where all of the good players of Taekwondo in my country meet. I had so much fun back then but now, I'm to busy to go back to Taekwondo.

I did earn medals and awards when I was in school. Although, a majority of them were when I was in band. I got them for things that we did at concerts and such. They weren't spectacular award like they have for baseball and cheerleaders, but it was for me.

Lots of honor roll awards. I also earned a couple for running(track and field and cross country) in college. Now I'm not so fast and apparently not so good. No awards lately :-)

I did receive awards / prizes for achievements in academics when I was in my primary school years up to high school. But I'm a little weak in sports, so I only get a few medals for sports event during my years in primary & junior high school. After high school, most awards come in the form of certificates. But I think all these medals / awards are just a momento to remind ourselves what it used to be like when we were in school. It doesn't really depicts one's success in life, as there many other things that will be taken into account when it comes to measuring one's success in life - for instance, career, relationship with spouse & family, frienships & how much you contribute to your community.

Hi there. Yes, I have received my share of medals, certificates, trophies and plaques, though most of them were in recognition of my academic achievements. I've never received an award for sports or literature or music or any other achievement. I really envy those who manage to excel both in academics and sports. Just curious, what have you done with your medals and awards? I know some people who actually frame all their medals and then display them in the house. In my case, I only have those major plaques displayed in our living room while most of the medals and other awards are safely stored away in my mother's drawer.

Hey, third place is good! Good for you! Honors and Honorable mention is good too! You earned it and that had to be a good feeling.
In elementary school, I graduated with honors. In high school I got rewarded for being highest in my business class. I was also first runner up for Homecoming Queen, so I got to ride up on the back of the convertible car driving around the football game during our homecoming game..FUN!!
Rewards are nice, they feel good and most of them are earned from hard work!

This thread made me reminisce my younger years ... LOL ... Anyway, when I was in grade school I must say that I am really promising. I'm an honor student since I was in grade one until I have graduated. I used to compete with other students in other schools in Spelling Bee and in Math. I've also received an award for our Religion subject.

Hello vanities,
I received a few medals and awards when I was in school. When I was studying in university, I sort of became a full time student without any medals in sports I really changed and maybe that time, I was busy with my love life that occupied most of my free time!

So many years have passed since I last received a medal! Whilst I was at school I was also a member of the sea cadet corps and I remember being a part of their athletics day! I won gold for the 100 metres sprint, I was very proud of that day and I still have the medal hidden away somewhere. I also won bronze for the long jump. It sounds like you did quite well yourself. Anyway, I was fast in those days, I guess I'm quite slow now, there's no way that I would be able to run 100 metres! Those are happy memories that I retain. Andrew

I won an award when I was in kindergarten but I think everyone received an award at that age. Most awards were handed out by teachers and most teachers have their favorite students and don't always go by the best educated. I remember this happened when I was older. Students with lower grades were rewarded above students with higher grades. It's all about the student relationship with the teacher until college. I hate brown nosers and will never stoop to that level.

I have received awards and medals in my elementary year..I was the first honor in class from grades 1 to 5, but i got salutatorian in grade 6 instead. Aside from this, i got a medal for girl scout of the year. During our graduation, i have more medals than our valedictorian, maybe because i joined a lot of activities. In high school and college, the only medals i received were from the intramurals, a bronze medal for table tennis. :D

We work not for awards or medals, but they do have great positive impact on us. The simple act the awards and medals are displayed in our cupboard, or on walls, shows what value we weigh them.
My grandson got a second prize in swimming at his class, and my son also a second prize for cost effectiveness program. They showed obvious pride in the praise, and would like to share with people around. I got one when I was retired, my last chance, maybe just for showing appreciation for my service. I am grateful for the goodwill recognition.
We need to express our appreciation to our team, our colleagues, and our friends, actually everybody who are contibuting to our peaceful, if not prosperous, life.
Cost low, but Effect is tremendous.

As far as academics are concerned,i have always got distinction and used to stand 1st in my batch. In fact i have whole lot of trophies, medals, plaques with me.My father had made a glass almirah for my trophies and displayed them with real honor.I was not very active into sports but used to play tennis at school level but i did not receive and medal for it.
During my college days i used to come on merit and my college fee was 100% exempted.I Have been a good student through out my life and my parents are proud of this fact.
