Do you want to live that long?
I read this obit this am and wondered what it must have been like
To hear this old gal speak of her life
It would be a great history lesson.

"County's oldest woman, 106, dies.
CAMBRIDGE - Washington County's oldest woman, born before the invention of cornflakes, canned beer, even air travel, died Saturday, less than a month shy of her 107th birthday."

There seem to be a lot of people with longevity these days. I have heard of some centenarians before. I never personally know any one. There is actually a lady that I have know in my life that I believe would be 100 now or turning 100 sometime. That sure is an encouraging story to hear of someone that had such a full life.

Because by the time I was half this age my bones and body hurt so bad there's been days I have wanted to die and taking in the fact that I had a heart attack by age 51 No I probably don't want to live to be 106. I don't think we can even begin to imagine the impact on change that this lady has seen and has had to adapt to. I would love nothing more than to be able to spend at least one day to sit and talk to someone of this age who could sit and tell the way it was.

I don't know. At a little over half that age, sometimes I feel I've already lived too long, with all the changes I've seen just in the past few years, never mind over my lifetime. When I was a small child, there were no sewers in my area, just ditches, the road was tar and gravel, many people still had outhouses and some kept chickens (one family had a goat), we had an icebox as opposed to an electric refrigerator, my mom cooked on a woodstove, the house was heated by a couple of coal burners... not exactly what one thinks of when remembering the 1950s.

I don't know if I would want to live that long and have to see all your loved ones die. I would hate to live longer than my kids too. But then it would be neat to be able to live through and see all the changes this world has come to. Don't seem like much happens now but in her time frame, lots of changes have occured and that would be neat to see. I wouldn't want to live that long if I were in a nursing home though I would want to be home and know everything that is going on around me and I would want to be mobile. My great grandma is still alive and she is 94 and she still does everything for herself. I think that is just amazing!

No, I can honestly say I wouldn't wanna live that long. My husband lost his adopted grandmother so to speak March of last year who was 103 years of age. She was a school teacher and had many many stories but her memory started to fail horrible and she just couldn't function very well. She outlived all but a sister (who will be turning 100 this year) and one of her children.

In that age, I hope if I will live that long I wish I am healthy. I don't want to live that long witha a disease and suffering from it, I just wish to die instead. In reality , I don't want to be on earth at that age, but if God bless me to be one, I wish I have a happy family so that I experience a shower of love from them, so that I will enjoy my remaining days.

I have heard it said, raydene, that the sad part of living to a ripe old age is that you lose so many friends and loved ones along the way. That would be very hard for me to take. I have reached the point where I honestly don't wish to lose any more of the people I love. I would also like to say that the quality of one's life is one of the important issues here. What good is a long life if it is of a poor quality? Living takes a lot of energy and it's a fact that our energy declines as we age.

I dunno if I'd wanna live that long, but one thing's for sure. If I do live that long, I don't wanna be a vegetable or something other than myself. I'd rather live to be 70 and be active right up til the day I die than live to be 106 or more and a vegetable.
I'm not sure what the situation was with this woman, but I hope her life was a happy one, and we already know it was long.
Just reminds me of what I have told my fiance and mother about if I am ever on life support. I said that if there is a good chance of my coming out of it myself or mostly myself then try, but if the odds are super high that I will have lost memory or be a vegetable or otherwise not function as myself then pull the plug.

I'll be contented living up to 60-65 years old. I think 100 is too long :)

Actually my friend asked me the same questions. This is what happen why he asked me about that " we're from philippines, we work as call center agent, we are agent for timeshare, so we are inviting people in the US to attend to the presentations. When she dial the number, an old lady answered the phone but she is not qualified to attend the timeshare presentation because she is already 99. But the lady insisted, that she can still walk and move around and she can still drive to our surprise." After my associate hang up the phone she asked me if i want to live that longer. I said "no". I think i live my life to the fullest before i reach 70. And i'm done with my purpose in life.

She would have been a very interesting person to talk to. I can imagine she lived quite the life. I would like to live that long, my grandmother lived to be 92, so its possible.

I wouldn't mind living that long if I could stay in good shape. but to me, it is more important to live a wonderful life. it is better to live short but wonderful than long but dull.
