Few years back, few people knew what google was. Today, it's in everything from mobile phones to watches. But it's not provoked real privacy concerns, after all, it simply tells you, and you alone, where you are.
But lately the technology has advanced further with a new locating technology like Geode - software that can pinpoint down to a few metres, where someone using the firefox web browser is, has raised significant privacy concerns. Among them is the fact that the data is processed externally, effectively removing the consumer's control of it. If everyone knows where everyone is in the world is, it's not a problem of privacy. The real problem arises when only certain people are such as a government, know where certain people are. Selective monitoring is the true privacy violation and the one that is the likeliest to lead to a diminished future democracy.
Trying putting your name in the google search or any person you know you are likely be able to get his full data from your search and in what social site he has joined. I might be a small fly in this whole wide world but giving out particulars in the net is a bit worrying for me.

On the surface of your discussion I agree with you, but reality tells me that the only way to avoid this is to live in the dark ages and not take advantage of any technology. Any time we buy anything it is usually entered into a computerized cash register. That data then goes on our permanent record so to speak. So since I don't intend to give up my computer or the ability to make purchases when I want to I will have to live with the fact that I can probably be traced.

I can see your point but don't you think with all this "ready" information about us out there that's why there is so much more identity theft going around? Didn't have that years ago

This issue has been debated many times over the years. And till today, there is no definite conclusion whether the internet is eroding our privacy or not.
Think of it this way, if you do not want people to know too much into your private life, then restrict the amount of private information about yourself to be put on the net.
The net is a human created entity. It will only hold what a person input into it. If the data is not provided in the first place, no matter how hard you search, it is not likely to be found.
So prudence is the key to keeping your privacy safe to a certain extend.

its a terrible thing. i havent think like that before. yes offcourse its a problem. now a days the tracking company can track us any where you stay by our Ip adress. often you receive mail from the people from where you belongs. its very disappointing to tell that the internet facility is binding us slowly. and after few years i think we will be in bindings of internet. what do you think?

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji,
I am abso lutely with you. Even after 26/11 blast, it was highlighted that extremist
have made use of such information and it should have been banned. But on eway is that
transparency among whole world is can be maintained. I always say, if science is a boon,
it is curse as well. But we all have to adopt its goodness and leave it's curse. may
God bless you and have great time.
