We know for our health, our body needs vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants in addition to the three major nutrients, protein, fat and carbohydrates. We can get them from fruits and vegetables. Then what is special about Tomatoes?Yes.There is something special about tomatoes. Only tomato is the rich source for the "lycopene",a rare nutritional element. This lycopene will help you to prevent cancers and slow the growth of tumors. The tomatoes also rejuvenate our skins. They are available world wide. They are also priced low. One more good thing about tomatoes is that you can eat either raw or cooked.Unlike other fruits and vegetables, the lycopene is found more in cooked or processed tomatoes. So enjoy your food daily with tomatoes and be healthy. Happy mylotting

Till now I like to eat raw tomato but your discussion really caught my attention on the statement about "the lycopene is found more in cooked or processed tomatoes.". Meaning that, I have to change my habit on tomato intake to the cooked or processed tomato and no more for raw tomatoes. Is that so? Am confused and need more explanation from you and if your have the link related to it, kindly share with me in your quality comment to my response? My second question is, what are the differences between red tomato and green tomato. Which one benefits us more for our tomato type intake?. Not many members know that Quality Comment and Quality Responses does help much to poster's earnings on myLot. You can refer an authentic statement made by myLot in FAQs - Earnings and Payment Information under "How do I increase my earnings" and "How do I calculate my earnings" listed in Item 14 & 15, respectively. Not just say like this way - "Thank you for your response" - which earns nothing. But if elaborate more answers to one response it does help poster's earnings more than normal rate.

Hi michaeldadona You can have both raw and cooked tomatoes, beacause they taste different. But lycopene is more in cooked tomato only. Similarly you can have green or red tomato. But beta carotene is more in red tomatoes only. I am just giving you the name of the site as giving link might be against rule. www.essortment.com is the name of that site where you can get more informations. Happy mylotting

First and foremost, I thank you a bunch, muru1950. Because you'd chosen my response as your "BR" and in return, I am really honored. Regarding your given link, means you earns more as you've provided the correct and perfect link related to your explanation to my question and not online money making or referral link. You're on the right track and not violating any listed "DON'Ts" in discussion guideline. In fact, you're in the "DO's" listing. To make your earning a little bit more, I rated your uploaded photo/picture and commented. Have your good luck, look and your life continued success, muru1950.

those are good advices. i am not really fond of eating tomatoes by itself. i do eat them when they are served as a garnishing or as an added ingredients in a menu. but i will try to eat them on their own without any other garnishing with it. or eating them raw can be the best for our health. but i have heard those that the lycopene is not released if we will not going to cook or simmer them with some little oil in it. so i guess those who love spaghetti with tomato sauce will receive the most lycopene contest. but still i think that the raw tomatoes really work wonders.

I love tomatoes even before the discovery of lycopene! Of course, I love it more now that I know that it has lots to offer for good health. I often used tomato paste and tomato sauce in preparing dishes, I love lots of tomato based sauce in my spaghetti, I like eating fried fish with tomato dip mixed with fish paste and mango or sour grapes, and I always use tomato ketchup for my fries. My favorite though is eating tomatoes raw with just a pinch of salt.

You are talking to someone who loves Italian, loves lasagna, spaghetti with tomato sauce with or without meatballs. I heard that tomatoes are good for you, and it is good to know that they prevent cancer and slow the growth of tumors. I suppose it was all that spaghetti sauce and tomato soup, etc. I ate that made it so the tumor I had in my br*st was benign and that my husband did not get prostrate cancer like so many men his age.

I actually like my tomatoes super soft and mushy. I think it tastes better when it is cooked rather than when it's fresh and raw. I also like ketchup. I hear that it's a good source of lycopene, albeit with the added sugar! Anyway, thanks for sharing all these. You must be a health buff huh?!
