Is alcoholism something that runs in the genes?

Do you think those with alcoholic parents are more likely to become alcoholics themselves? Are people with alcoholic parents or ancestors predisposed to becoming alcoholics because of their DNA? What's your opinion on this? Personally, I don't think this is the case. I have two alcoholic parents, and I'm not particularly fond of drinking and all that it entails. What about you? Do you have parents/ancestors who are or have been alcoholics? Is that statement true?

No I don't think so...I guess its just a matter of choice. If you decide to drink then its you, not your genes.

I don't think it has anything to do with genetics..I know people like myself who come from a long line of boozers and don't drink like that..I mean, I drink but not like them..I know people who use that genetics theory as an excuse..If you drink heavy, you just drink heavy and might need some sort of help for it and not even realize it..thats just my two cents..
