Poor Koala in Australia

I so feel for and pray for our friends in Australia.
I don't know if you saw this on the news but it touched me and I had to share it with you.
This little Koala was found on Sunday, Feb 8, 2009. She survived the wildfire but her
paws were burned and she was in a lot of pain.
She allowed this firefighter to come up to her, which is very unusual. He could tell she
needed help. They don't normally drink a lot of water as they get it from the leaves
they eat, but she drank and drank, holding onto him and the bottle, just like a baby.
The firefighters notified animal-welfare and they came out and picked her up. She'll be
released back to the wild in about 5 months when her injuries heal. Currently, there's a
male Koala who has taken a liking to her. He keeps putting his arms around her. In a
horrible situation like the fires it's heartwarming to see a good outcome.

This story is so touching.
When there are such disasters like this one in Australia we tend to hear only about the consequences to humans and forget about other forms of life. This koala was so very lucky and I can't help thinking she isone in a million as I guess many of her brothers and sisters did not get the same chance
I wonder also about the pets belonging to the families who are now homeless too.

Hi, They say Koalas do immitate people. and it looks like they are right.yes have heard and saw the news on tv about the australian bush fire. well that's horrible. i was telling about this to one of my friend here that we still have no control over the nature and its happenings.
poor koala and you never know how many other koala's have even come across this fire and get killed. its a loss to the wildlife, property, and also to the nation with all respect...

Ahh, I do hope that she gets better and heals fast..maybe their will be some little koala babies to look forward to since the male has taking a liking to her. That would be great. I will definitely put her in my prayers and Australia also.

Hello bunnybon. I am so thankful for the person who is helping feeding water to the koala, which is really a very touching scene.
Speaking of fire, I think that people are supposed to be more aware of the danger caused by fire. If everyone were more careful with the correct use of fire, there would be no more loss of life and property.
What is pleasant is that the male koala has taken a liking to her so that they won't feel lonesome due to each other's companion. I wish them both to get recovered soon and live in the wild for their enjoyment of the nature again with good luck.

I have been keeping up with this on the Nancy Grace show, and I feel the way you do. I really think she killed that baby. I also believe something is very wrong with that woman (Casey) her mind is bad she is plain crazy. I do believe something is wrong with the whole immediate family. And the media is just making it worse giving her/them all the publicity they want.
Did you see at the memorial how her brother was giving out those initials C.M.A.? Nancy Grace said she believe he was sending codes to his sister Casey Marie Anthony and not his nieces Caylee Marie Anthony. Why would he use that time to talk to Casey, that memorial was for little Caylee. And Casey didn't even watch it on TV.
One of the people that was being interviewed said that she probably would watch it later on a computer or a recorded video. In jail these people got it made. I wouldn't let her watch it at all.

It is really heartwarming that there are people like you that really cares for them. I am really touch by the concern the fireman has with the animal. I think the Koala really had to overcome his being shy and badly needed assistance that he allowed herself to be attended to by us humans. For as long as there are people that cares for animals I think we have chance for a better world.

i am an animal lover, bunnybon. koalas have always amazed all the members of my household. it may be sad that we have never had the opportunity to personally take hold of one. however, we always love taking a look at them on tv whenever we chance on an episode showing them.
it is so disheartening to note that the animals in the wild are so affected by these wildfires. i have been wondering all these years how come wild fires strike australia so much. news of these occurrences always break out. and never will it ever become a good one to hear of.
although that particular koala was saved, i keep on hoping that the australian government will be able to find a good solution to minimize the ill effects of these wild fires.

yes the koala just looks like our teddy bears to me. like you'd just like to hug the heck out of them. maybe austrailia just has a lot of dry vegetation? like california.

I did a similar discussion, but not just about "Sam" the koala bear but about all the animals...they are fearing up to a million animals might have perished in the fires. My one Australia friend was the one to send me a link to an article and a video about that koala. With all the devastation going on due to those fires, it's nice to hear one heartwarming story like this one

It is good when there is a good outcome. Maybe she will become their forestry's mascot, like Smokey Bear is for us. That was also a real bear, saved from a wildland fire. There are pictures of the real bear with one of the warden's hats on if you search it. So maybe, she'll become Blazie Koala.

i live in melbourne where these fires are and im not sure if you know much about koalas but they are very aggressive particularly the males they are quite partial to raping the females, and they have very large claws and are likely to scratch you to bits if you approach a wild one. So to see one in such a desperate state that it is relying on him even to take pressure off her paws and lean on him is heartbreaking. If the koala wasnt injured it would be a really beautiful site.

Hi bunnybon7,
My heart is breaking for all the families that have suffered the lost of their loved ones and lost of their homes, but I am heart sick for the poor animals and creatures, how they must have suffered. The person or people who started this fire should be if they are ever caught be hung drawn and quatered. I am so very angry and sad. Hugs.
