Do you monitor the music your kids listen to?

My daughter is only 5. So right now she is limited to kids music like Radio Disney. But I have been paying closer attention to the lyrics now than I used to. So are there rules in place at your house about music? Some lyrics are not appropriate for certain ages.

I try to monitor the music my kids listen to. There was, however, a song about kissing a girl and liking it. My wife didn't quite seem to agree with me on that one.

Hello ersmommy. My elder son is now a teen. He chooses to listen to music he likes freely. We don't choose for him, but we did when he was a small boy. Take care.

Yes, because their are some very inappropriate music out there for little ears. Like 50 cent Candy shop..sounds innocent till you listen to it. and a few other ones. S it is good to only let them listen to music you pick out for them because then you know it isn't going to be dirty or have foul language in it.

This really isn't a problem in my house. I like listening to older music anyway, not too much rap or newer music. When we do play music in the house, which is rare, its nothing that I feel that I have to keep from my kids. There have been times where a person has turned on the rap station on the television, and I try to not say anything. However, it is satellite radio, where the full and explicit versions are played. All it took was for a few curse words to come out, and I was like "Hey, you gonna hafta turn that off around my kids."

Not really. My son is not really that into music like he was when he was a baby. My daughter just listens to what I listen to and I don't listen to anything that I would have to worry about her hearing.

We actually don't have any radios in the house. If I play music in the house, it's music that I've downloaded onto my computer, so I decide what gets played and what doesn't. In the car we also listen to my music. I have a few favorite radio stations and will play those, and my kids do know most of the words to a lot of popular songs. When my son had a walkman (which he broke) we did tell him there were only certain stations he could listen to. One of those was the station I listen to the most, another was radio Disney. I'm sure if he had a walkman right now he'd probably only listen to the sports networks.
