Potty training anyone?

My oldest daughter shows all the signs that she's ready to start potty training. She's even gone in her big girl potty a few times. She has only gone in her potty twice in the past year. She's 2 1/2 years old. She wakes up from naps and bedtime dry as a bone. She sometimes even asks to sit on her potty. Other times she complains about her diaper being wet or that she's poopy. She'll sit on the potty for a maximum of about 15 minutes but doesn't go potty. We really want her to go to preschool next fall and she says she wants to go to school. She can't go to preschool until she's potty trained. Our main reason is because we think she's ready and are tired of buying diapers. She's a pretty independant kid and want her to be independant in this sense also. How and when did your kids get potty trained? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We'ere just taking it slowly with our little guy. He wears pullups during the day and a diaper at night. He sometimes takes them off when wet, and tries to use his potty. We figure eventually he'll get it. I wouldn't worry about unless you are in a hurry. She'll come along on her own. If you want the old fashioned way, simply put her in cotton panties all day long and let her wet herself. I'm not a fan of this because I think it's more humiliating if she's always wetting her clothing. I feel it's not a huge issue if it takes them longer then society wants. If you leave her potty out where she can get to it, praise her when she's gone, don't chastize her if she pulls her diaper off but praise her for knowing she was dirty, I think she'll have some success. Good luck. Anora

You are doing the right thing taking it slowly with your little guy. I have a five year old son that I had to be patient with. You know. They are still going to have their accidents for a while. Once you let your guard down a little a child usually finds their way anyway when dealing with potty training.

Thanks. It's definately better then when we first started and moved too quickly. He became frustrated and so did we. This way he's happy, we're happy, and hopefully he'll be ok in the end. Thanks for your encouragement. Anora

My mom said that she used to let us run around with no diaper so we would know when we were wet or soiled. She said it worked well for us. I'm not a big fan of having to clean up the messes but if it works it may be worth it. I also take her with me when I go or leave the door open when it's just us girls at home. We never pressure her or get upset if she doesn't go.

My mom did a similar method. She said it worked well. We are using cloth panties on her starting today. She did pee once and it scared her at first. I put her on the potty for about 5 minutes. We're hoping that she'll get the hint that if she doesn't want to get wet that she'll tell us that she needs to go. He's off work for 8 days and we're hoping with both of us working with her, we'll have some progress.

My son was just over 3 when he was finally potty trained. He just did not care. He would rather go in a diaper than in the potty. My daughter just turned 2 last month and I have been working with her lately. She does ok some days and other days not so good. She is just stubborn. She knows when she needs to go. She did great yesterday morning and the rest of the day was down hill. Today she won't go near the potty, but she will tell me when she has already gone.
My only advice is be patient with her.

We are very patient. We strated her on cloth training pants today and she peed in them. She was scared at first but I just brought her into the bathroom right away. She sat on the potty for about 5 minutes. We're going to try this for the next week or so and see how it works.

Hi, i've just posted a week ago about how I proud I am because my youngest already knows how to pee and poop in the toilet. She's also 2.5 years old, compared to her sister who was potty trained when she was already more than three. I think the main factor why my daughter learned quicker is because she's seeing examples, like her sister and me, we go to shower together and she sees us doing it in the bathroom. She also sees her sister using the toilet bowl seat for kids so she did not experience having fears on using it for the first time.

I think the second time around it will be easier for us. Younger siblings seem to always want to do what their older siblings are doing. I'm so happy for you that she is going for you. Thanks for the response.
