Six years ago my husband and I together with our three children moved from Glasgow, Scotland to Southern Spain. Our children started a local Spanish school without knowing a word of the language. Within a year they were all fluent. The difference in our lifestyle is amazing and we are able to spend much more quality time together as a family, the climate is a huge difference to what we were used to, but we love it here. Anyone else thinking about or have moved to a different country ? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Four years ago, my husband and I moved to United States. We were originally from the Philippines. There is a huge difference with the lifestyle- the conveniences, the cool places to visit, the so-so advanced technology made me love living here. But I still find myself wanting to go home coz I terribly miss my family and friends.
Im glad you are enjoying your stay in Spain. Kids cope fast thats why your children are well adjusted. They also easily adapt to the language most of their peers use.
happy mylotting!

Thanks Lipsticknladdles (great user name by the way!) I understand what you mean about missing family and friends, we are lucky though that we are only a three hour flight away, travel to Spain from Scotland is relatively cheap most of the year, the great advantage of living in a warmer climate is we are never short of visitors from home looking to catch a few rays (and see us of course lol. I am glad you are happy in the United States, do your famliy get a chance to visit often from the Philippines?

Its good that your family can visit you often. Mine cannot do that since it isnt easy to acquire a US tourist visa from the Philippines. Also if they will travel by plane, it will take them 18 hours to get here =(. My husband and I went home 2 years ago to spend time with them. Again, we are planning to go back for a visit this coming December. Im so excited! ( We just have to save for the airfare, it would cost us at least $1000 per person just for the plain ticket)
have a good one!

We moved from the US to Mexico almost 3 years ago. We have been to Mexico visiting friends that have moved here , and fell in love with the area during our visits.
Because of health problems we decided we needed to put more joy in our lives .
We both , husband and I longed for a more simple lifestyle. We found that by moving here , to the Yucatan , Mexico . This quickly became home to us , and we have nooo desire to go back

Ahhh Spanish with a Scottish accent, I bet it sounds really cool! 6 years ago my husband and I also moved, from the US to Mexico. Our children were grown and we really wanted to experience something new and open our minds to new cultures and new people. We lived in Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel and Belize before settling on the state of Yucatan in Mexico. It has changed our lives! Even though we are still working, we sell real estate here, our lives move at a slower pace, we enjoy our house more, eat better, and generally have a much better life. For those of you thinking of making a move, let me warn you, it is not always easy at first. You need to learn a new culture, language and understand that you are not in your home country any longer. You are now a guest in someone else's. If you can do that, it is amazing!
