Is anyone interested in a self-sufficient life?

I would love to live a simple life, away from the rat race, in a small village of like-minded people, who strive for self-sufficiency. We could generate our own electricity, grow our own food, educate our own children, be responsible for our own health, make our own clothes, build our own houses, share our desires, and have a fun, trouble-free life.

Sure - maybe some of the 1,000,000 dollars you are going to make could find us some land.
Malaysia would be a gret place to do this. I was there for three months a couple of years ago, but ran out of time and money. I'm in China now, but I don't know where to start because nobody speaks English and I don't speak the local lingo.
If you have I chance to get started, let me know. Then I can help you to make some money, and we can both fulfil our dreams.

I love the idea of a self sufficient lifestyle, but in reality it is just too much hard work.

The trouble with this simple, self sufficient life style is its really hard work. I have lived in the country, and done our best to lead a self sufficient lifestyle. I made all my kids clothes, our house was only heated by wood fire, we cut all our own wood, we milked a goat and we had chickens and our own veggies. But my goodness I was exhausted, all day every day. Maybe Im getting old but I love turning the gas heating on these days.

But are you as healthy as you were? And working for yourself is better than slaving for someone else. Actually I agree. But I would plan on living somewhere warm, where heating the house is not required. I have spent 15 years in Thailand, and now 3 years in Hainan, south China, and have forgotten what house heating is.

I think I still live as healthy a lifestyle, perhaps just slowed up a bit, but age tends to do that to us :)
I lived in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for years too, but I love the change of seasons.
I should trade my useless, but very cute dogs for some chickens :)

Sounds fantastic but some government will still attempt the extract taxes from us, regardless of representation. However, the whole concept is quiet appealing and yet fundamentally idealistic. To have the opportunity to strip away all the layers of extraneous nonsense that distracts our attention from achieving true self-actualization would be both a liberating and fulfilling experience.
