poutine is a Canadian dish that has both gravy and cheese curds on top of french fries. it has it origins from Quebec and is eaten all over Canada. while not a favourite of mine, it is (i believe) an acquired taste. have you ever tried poutine? what did you think? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine

Sounds delish to me as long as I liked the flavor of the gravey. When I was a teen I loved A&W's cheddar fries.... (fries soaked in nacho cheese like cheddar)

I've never tried it but I don't think that it would be all that bad to be honest. We eat mashed potatoes with gravy, so it shouldn't be bad at all.

Hi Hon I've never tried it or even heard of it prior to reading this. I find it strange that I never heard of it because my grandparents were from Canada. Maybe they didn't like it either. xoxoxoxoxo

Hey Cher, That sounds delicious. The first time I ever had cheese curds was when I went to visit my sister in Wisconsin. They serve them fried in a batter that is to die for. I always bring fresh curds back home every time we go there. I love the way the fresh curds squeak on your teeth while eating them. I will have to try these Canadian french fries, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for giving me best response! By the way, I did try cheese curds on top of the fries and they were a big hit here. I have found a place locally at a farmers market where I can buy fresh cheese curds. Now I do not have to wait until I go to Wisconsin.

I've never heard of poutine either, but it does sound like something I'd like to try. Around here I'd be looked at like I was nuts if I asked for gravy or vinegar on my fries, but I learned a long time ago on vacation in Canada that either of those things beats ketchup in my world! Now I've got another variation to try next time I get that way.

I'm not sure I know exactly what cheese curds are but we have a thing down here where they melt cheese over french fries and then put on brown gravy. I've had it a couple times and it's not bad but it's a little too rich for me. I like my french fries crispy with lots of salt and ketchup.

Poutine is so yummy! It may not be the best choice if you are counting calories or fat grams but it is a nice junk food treat now and then. If you make it at home with just gravy mix, McCain fries & regular cheese it isn't that bad for you, most of the fat is in the cheese.
