Is it good to give an advice?

Hi there everyone! Good day, is it easy for you to give advice/s to your family, friends or other people? Do you think it is good to give advices?
For me, I really admit that i give advices to other people but before i do that I reflect and put myself at their shoes and think what will i going to do when i am in this kind of situation. People say it's easy to advice because it is not your problem. I felt guilty about that, but i make sure that my advices are for the good of my friends, family and other people.
My professor told us that it is not good to give advice, because what if your friend is under depression and then you gave her/him an advice, there's the tendency that he/she will follow your advice. What if your advice is wrong right?
So what is your opinion about this? thank you!

It is best to refrain from giving advices to other people however hard we try to see their problems from their point of view. Your professor has given a point to this argument. Nevertheless if you still want to give an advice because you cannot stop doing it, or because you are not sure on how to put the words down in a different way, then maybe you should give more than one option.
Have you considered using a different tact? For example instead of telling the person on what should be done maybe you should ask him/her what step can be taken from the situation that he/she is in. Helping a person to make a decision is better than telling him/her what the next move should be.

I don't think giving advise is a wrong thing. When somebody gives advise it is almost always for the benifit of the person that needs it. However, that doesn't mean that it is absolute; advise is just an advice. It's like a portfolio full of documents for perusal. It's still up to the person concerned to weigh things.

Hello there ds6413, Thank you responding to this discussion. And thank you for sharing your side. Yes, you are right it is good to give an advice if you experienced the same situation your friend is having now. Atleast, you helped your friend right? :)
