I just heard the news on t.v. A young boy of only 16 years old, was given 35 tequilas. The boy fell into a coma, and died one month later. The barkeeper is getting 15 years. He gave alcohol to a miner, he was only 16. Has to be 18 years here in Berlin. What do you feel and think when you hear something like this?

Its really sad. What a waste. I feel age should be kept into consideration but even then taking outrageously high dose can always prove very dangerous. Common sense or sanity, as you would put it, should be followed.

No it is not easy. Especially in puberty where the boy's want to be men. It is only natural that he would try to prove himself. The barkeeper is the adult, he should have had more sense. But no, he killed the child. Drinking water, making the child think he was drinking just as much. That was murder. Thank-you for your comments. Take care.

It is true that it is a waste. There are definitely too many young people that get caught up with this and the peer pressure that ensues. It might be hard for the younger folks to say no especially when it comes to wanting to keep friends or any other reason. Common sense should be heeded of course but might not prove easy for some.

35 shots? he gave the kid 35 shots? oh my, I would have fell over after two LOL those are potent drinks so I'm surprised he was able to consume so much. The bartender should be charged as it was his responsibility to check ID and make sure all his patrons are of the legal age and besides, giving someone 35 shots is just ridiculous.

We are good thanks margajoe. Hubby is still overseas for work and Maddy and I are plodding along. He has been sick most of last week though with the flu. We had to skip his bball game this evening because he just didn't have the energy to play. He is feeling better though, thanks for asking!

First of all, I think 18 is way too young to be of legal drinking age. That's still high school age over here. And they drive! Who in there right mind would let a 16 year old drink 35 tequilas? That just makes me mad beyond mad. What was the barkeeper thinking? What were the boy's friends thinking (was he with friends?). This is just so tragic and avoidable.

The bar keeper should pay the price, but how did he get in the bar in the first place? Out here, they ID you first before you can enter the bar. That is sad.

That is absolutely horrible. How long has the bartender been working there? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know 35 tequilas aren't good news for anyone, let alone a 16 year old boy. There's definitely something not right there...

The barkeeper was the owner of the bar. He was 28 years old at that time. This happened two years ago, but just recently it was on the news. The barkeeper got 15 years jail. But the family of the boy has a life sentence. I could not believe my ears. The barkeeper was drinking water and having fun motivating the boy to keep drinking. It was a game for the barkeeper! Terrible!!! Thank-you for commenting. Take care.

thats so crazy i didnt hear about that till now i think the only reason why the bartender should have been held responsible was cause after a while they should know when to stop giving the drinks but if someone else was buying the drinks for that kid then he couldnt have known. and as for the age thing thats not his fault because people can get fake ids.

People have been around for thousands of years and it seems to me that lessons are seldom learned. Young people feel the need to experience drinking and adults encourage it but I think this should just be avoided. Does anyone listen at all? No, and obviously you get all kinds of tragedies simply because lessons are never learned. This goes with a host of other things too.

First of all, if I had about three tequilas I would be comatose and secondly, the bartender must have known what he was doing. After all, he's a bartender, isn't he ? This is crazy. Its obvious you can kill anyone with 35 tequilas.

That is the way I see it too. He got 15 years, but the family of the boy has a life sentence. Thank-you for commenting. Take care.

Regardless of age, I don't think anyone should ever have 35 tequillas. I can understand how a 16 year old can look like a 18 year old, it can be hard to tell, so carding should be used more often for young people. I am not so much against drinking in light moderation for ages 16, 17, 18, and up, but you have to be careful, server and drinker alike. He did break the law though, and he should get in trouble for it to an extent. Man, 15 years in prison for a mistake that probably happens to a bartender at least once, would just suck. I might be one of the more sympathetic types, heh. Poor kid though.

Yes, 15's years may seem long, when you think he was only doing his work. But the boy's family is doing a "life sentence". They will be in prison for the rest of there lives. Not a real one, but an emotional one. I sure would not want to be in there shoes! I had a bar once in Belgium, I can't imagine I would have aloud that. Not even to the adults. I mean enough is enough. Take care, thank-you for commenting.
