How are you supposed to know when God is talking back to you?

People say when you're down or if you're wishing for something significant, talk to God. Okay so you talk to something you can't see but believe is there but how do you know he's talking back to you though? Do you hear your mind talking to you? How on Earth do you know that it's not you talking back to yourself and you're just telling yourself things you want to hear?
Honestly, I talk to God, and all I can hear in my mind are my mind's voice or rather the answers I'm hoping to hear or assuming I will hear. I don't hear any other voice "interfering" with my mind, if you catch my drift.
Anyone care to elaborate?

People are right when they say one should talk to God when one is down/depressed or low. But now only during these hard times but also during times of happiness and plenty. Talking to God and hearing from God is the most gratifying thing that a person can achieve in ones lifetime.
The Bible tells us to talk to God in prayers...we should always go on our knees in prayers every time we want to talk to God, whether in need or gratitude. On the other side, God talks to us through his word - The Holy Bible. We can always know what God wants of us by reading the Bible, it addresses every aspect of our daily lives. You can be uplifted when you are down, you can be encouraged when you have doubts, you can learn to have courage in the face of fear, you can learn to love when your heart tells you to hate and so much more. The Bible is God speaking to us and you will certainly receive peace and know he is talking to you when you read it. Try it and you shall see. But that still doesn't mean that God doesn't speak to us on a one-on-one basis just like He did with our fore fathers - Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. After all the Bible says He is the same Yesterday, Today and Forever more. Which means if he isn't talking to us now it's not because He has changed but because WE HAVE CHANGED and are not walking in His ways nor listening to His voice. All in all every man should go back to his Bible, for therein lies the answers to all our problems and needs.

I think it just something you know. Be it an inner voice, or just a whisper, or something that occurs. I think when the Divine speaks, you'll know.
