have you ever experienced being robbed of a cellphone? i have a very unforgettable one. i was working in FTI, Taguig then. Lived very near the office and so i just take a walk, or if i am late, i take a tricycle. i have been walking through a certain road for several days already, and just got myself a new phone (3210, way back in 2001). dec 2000, my 5110 was taken from my jeans pocket in the MRT station (this will be another story) and so having a new one, i vowed that it will be a phone that will stay with me forever. while walking and checking time from my cp (all my attention was on the cp, someone suddenly stood in front of me, saying "akin na cellphone mo"/"give me your cellphone". i looked up and saw a man holding my cellphone while my hand is on the phone. I dont want to give it of course, since i have made a promise that this will stay long with me. i was frightened when he told me, "barilin mo na,pare"/"shoot him now, man" and when i looked at the direction he has his eyes on, i saw a guy with a gun. i felt scared and my strength gone. and he grabbed my phone and ran away with the other guy. when i came to my senses, i started shouting "magnanakaw!"/"holduppper!" but no one responded. for some reason, there was no one on the streets on that day. i ran after them following the street they took and at the end i asked people if they saw 2 men running. they said, they must have took off, saying "nanakawan ka no?",/"you were robbed, right?". the people there said, these men know where to hide. i went to the office and told my boss about what happened and he allowed me to go to the police to report.while reporting, i told them that the gun looked like plastic. the police who heard me said, "are you not aware of the past shootings here because of cellphones? don't you know that many have died?" i kept quiet after hearing that. 3 days later, another incident happened at the terminal. the owner wouldnt want to give his/her cellphone and he/she was shot, and was dead. when i heard this news, i was so thankful that i was spared and saved. my officemate gave me a hug saying, "hey, you must have a reason still to be alive from that incident" and i nodded my head in agreement. since then, i have been very careful of my environment, looking here and there so that i know if there is something suspicious around me. but i believe, I was saved by an angel. i also used to be so trusting and so carefree, after this incident, i learned to be more wary.

I was mugged at work at a bookshop and my phone was solen along with my handbag. I was very upset. I called the phone and the htief answered. I asked her to please return the non-valuables that were in my handbag or to leave them somewhere. She laughed and cut me off. Some people have no conscience.

the nerve of that person answering your cell phone!!! and she even laughed at you??? i can't believe how bad people turns out to be when we are all born basically good. what i did when someone snatched my cell phone was to make suspend my services so they could not make phone calls. who knows they might use it to make international calls! yeah, i agree with you, some people really do not have conscience.

and probably, some, especially speaking for the philippines, do it for a living. i think they dont want to do it but because they dont earn for the family they have to feed, they resort to doing things like that. i can only speak from observation in our country, though.

I have had my cell-phone stolen two times in the past. At both the occasions, i used to keep two cell-phones together all the time- obviusly it was not possible to keep an eye on both of them properly. These two cell-phones got stolen alongwith my wallet , which did not have much money in it (fortunately)

good to know that not much money was in your wallet. otherwise, it would be really a headache on your part to lose so much at one time. ahh, sometimes, you just lose things that are of value and that you have purchased with your hard-earned money. any lesson you learned that you wanna share re this experience of yours? did you alter anything after this incident? just curious.

that's horrible. maybe, all we have to remember is not to use our phones whenever we go to quiet places especially at nights. i've been there in taguig for years, studied in a technical school which is now a university, lived at tenement and bliss. but in those days, cellphones are not yet invented.

hmm. so very true. and to think that that is a secured place, huh? i guess it's because when they see that you are so absorbed with what you are doing with your phone, they just come and pounce on you unprepared. so we just have to remind ourselves that, it is not really a very safe place at all. hope nothing like that happens to you again, it is something you surely worked for or love, for that matter!
