My mother used to boil hairbrushes. I'm not entirely sure why. I never really asked. I don't think boiling hairbrushes seems logical. So far as I know, unless a sibling is bushing their hair and has lice, there shouldn't be any plagues on the hairbrushes to kill by boiling. Shrug.

I clean my brushes. I will actually remove alot of the hair with each use but to clean my brushes I will actually put them in a sink and add water and then some baking soda and let them set for 10 minutes or more then all I have to do is move the brush around and then tap it on the sink and every is clean.. I usually use baking soda on alot of things I want to clean since it is the best cleaner.

as you said i keep those brushes in a mug of soapy waterwhich does remove the dirt and it does loosen the strands of hair, which makes removing of the hair easier.

I lose so much hair when I brush my hair I have to clean mine out every day. I don't soak mine as often as I should though. I know the oil from your hair gets trapped on the bristles and needs to be washed off sometimes. I have 3 hair brushes the are exactly the same right now, so it is not as bad as it could be. I keep one in my car, one in the bathroom, and I have one in my daughters hair accessories case.

I clean out my hair brush every once in awhile but not really a set time frame. The kind of brush I have I'd be afraid to soak in water and shampoo because it is plush in the middle, although I would assume it'd withstand it as I've brushed my hair when it's wet with that brush before.
