I went over to one of my friends house yesterday. Now my friend is out of work due to company closings, she has been out of work every since March of 2008, she has been drawing unemployment insurance, plus she has a child that has Aspergers, and this child is getting government assistance. Now my friend filed her income tax for this year she got a small amount it was over a thousand dollars, because she only worked 2 and 1/2 months of the year. To make a long story short she just bought a brand new 50 inch Plasma HDTV. I ask her if she had lost her mind? Why did you spend your money on that darn television when just a few months ago you said your builds was behind, you didn't have any medical insurance, and you need some work done on your car. Woman have you bumped your head? Have you seen people spend money needlessly when they are inneed? If you were in her place would you have spent your extra money on a darn television?

no, she hasn't bumped her head. that's a perfect example of how people get in trouble w/their bills & lose everything they have. how stupid. i had rather have my bills paid than any tv in the world. people don't live within their means & that's why so many are in trouble, losing their homes etc.

When I was raising my kids, I always told them that we CHOOSE to pay our bills rather than to do some of that wild spending. It is a choice.

I could pay off at least one bill with that. I have always known people who were that way, though. It was very typical of people who had children in our government supported preschool. What we were told was that to the families, it was there image of what was normal, or what a successful person would do or have.

She will be hollering she can't pay her electric bills, then what good is a TV without electricity.

Some people just don't have a clue. I feel sorry her child for different reasons. What we know we have literally learnt from someone else and how if I may ask is that child going to learn anything from mom? She should have been thinking more clearly. So if the child gets really sick what does she plan to do then wrap the kid in a blanket and watch television? OH MY...

Wrap the child in a blanket is right. That TV is not going to be able to help.

There is no way I would buy a luxury item when I was out of work with piled up bills. I have a friend who was a Manager at a company I used to work for. She quit her job, therefore, she was not entitled to unemployment. She had to give up her apartment, and was living from friend to friend. I have not heard from her in a long time, I hope she is okay. To answer your question, this friend withdrew all of her 401K in order to have something to live off of until she got another job. In the meantime, she was spending, spending, spending, going out every night. Loaning people money, and taking care of her boyfriend. Yeah, some people do not know how to put their priorities first.

I am holding on to every cent I get and then some. That is what I am doing here trying to make a little extra money. It's not much but it will buy a role of toilet paper, toothpaste and some soap.

Hi Chevee, This woman has gone mad, she should have paid her bill and she should have got her medical insurance, some people really do stupid things, I don't know anyone had done silly things like that. Hugs. Tamara

I've seen it happen one too many times. I'm not sure why people tend to do that sort of thing. It really makes me wonder if they're really as bad off as they say they are or what. Then again, some people just want things and need things, and the things that they want tend to trump the things that they need and then they'll just go and complain later on about how they really need the money cause they're broke. I don't get it personally but what can you do about it? It's all their personal choice.

I know ppl like that and all I can think is they have no business being out without a keeper. I had a friend that spent a huge student loan check in like hours on a bunch of cr*p and then had the nerve to come and ask to borrow money. I put my foot down and said no. I wouldn't have spent money on a tv and I would have looked at either paying up some bills or saving it. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

If I were in arrears because of no job I certainly would not have spent that money on a new television set. I would have paid the important bills first

no way! Agra is like that. she used to have good money and worked 5 days a week at 20 bucks an hr. now she is out of work. claims shes disabled and is getting her social security and yet she cries around about how she dont get enough and can barely pay her 3rd of the bills. i know this is true, but she will go shopping and buy extra things to fix up the house like fancy towels just for looks, etc.

Nope, I would've saved the money, or buy something MORE useful than a pricey TV with a lifespan to boot. Then again she's been down so long, that when she got a break, she decided to treat herself with something. It may not be the logical thing to do, but at least try to understand your friend on her action, and try to caution her on spending more.

Your friend has bumped her head for real. But what gets me, is that there are so many people that are like that. They will worry about what they want at that particular time instead of being responsible and taking care of their needs. It is sad that she has a child with a disability and late bills but isn't take the time to handle her business. Oh well, it will come back to haunt her later.

I sent you a friend request. You seem like a bright young lady, and yes I am sure it will come back to haunt her.
