Zyrtec makes me very sleepy. So I was wondering if it would be safe to cut it in half. Do you know if it would be alright? Have you ever split one in half?

I wouldn't split it if I were you. Maybe you could try Claritin instead? Or buy the child dosage.

Call and ask your local pharmacist as certain medications are not supposed to be cut in half.

I wouldn't without contacting a doctor or pharmacist first. Many pills like that have a special coating on them so they dissolve over a certain amount of time so your body doesn't absorb it too quickly. If you break it in half you break the coating - hence, your stomach acid may dissolve it too quickly and you might have a odd side-effect (or you might just get sleepier faster). You can go to www.webmd.com and check on Zyrtec to see what is said about it. XOXO

i am a pharmacist and yes you can split zyrtec in half. it is interesting though that it makes you sleepy it is a new generation antihistamine and shouldn't be this way. you could try the new form of zyrtec called Xyzal.
