emoticons and avatar / myLot

I am new here in mylot. I just saw some response to my discussion they put emoticons in their text. I also saw some have their pics on their avatar.Can u guys share with me how?

hi unchie, my dear friend, i donno myself, i came here to respond to your diiscussion so that i know myself, and can also use some emoticons. i love to use them and love to see also wen it is used in discussions posted bby other peoples on mylot. i just know how to use a smiley like :-) , thats it, nothing else and nothing more.
