I only have 299 MB free space in my E drive and 805 in my C drive. So I deleted some unused softwares from my E drive and so as the C drive and my problem is, I also accidentally deleted the Windows Media Player for Windows XP and since then, I can't listen my favorite music nor watch some videos, I can't use my skype nor the yahoo voice. And I don't know anymore how to restore it. I would really love to hear some piece of advice or help from you. Please care to share... It's really highly appreciated.
Thank you and Happy mylotting!
Happy Weekend
May~

First of all, it is slightly dangerous to just -delete- software from a Windows machine. Always use an uninstall tool, most likely the one that came with the program. That being said, you might be able to go to Microsoft's website and find Windows Media player, and go to Yahoo and Skype's websites and get their software and reinstall all of it. Second of all, if you have that little space n your hard disk, I would recommend getting another one, and maybe deleting some CONTENT, not programs that you do not need anymore. If the reinstalls do not work, you might have to reinstall Windows, and if you do, I would say that looking at your current hard drive for partitions and making sure that your system disk has only one partition. Windows and Programs on one hard disk, data on the other. Hard Disks are cheap (this coming from a poor college student). If you have questions about all of that, comment back and I can explain in more detail.

Hello there, sOrry for the late reply.
Yes, I used uninstall tool (sorry for that "deleted" word.. that's not what i meant.. :)) and I only discovered it two weeks later. And I could not restore it anymore.. it was gone...
I uninstalled the whole software package (Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Media player) in my computer due to few bytes left. And that was really stupid... argh! I shouldn't have done that.
But yeah, anyway, I bought a new laptop and I am now using Windows Vista. Still have to get use to this...
Thank you for responding! Happy mylotting!

I just read mirage108's comment, and it is true that you want to leave a system restore partition alone entirely. But that is not the only situation that computers come with partitioned hard drives.

I agree with a lot of what you said. But you have programs that you are not using why not delete them they are serving no perpose. And you are right about reinstalling windows and because they have windows xp they can do a repair install and not lose anything. Other than that I agree with what you said.
before you say it yes I know this is an old post

Sorry to here what happened. you have a lot of good suggestions in recovering the programs so I wont restate them here.
Now the hard drive space is a little low on both of your drives. looks like your e drive might be a system restore partition. so I would leave that one alone.
you C drive how big is it if it were empty?
example if you have a 30 gig HD then you need to keep about 10 gig or 33% free at all times, I know this seems like a lot but anything else in the smaller bracket will effect system performance.
you said you like to watch videos, and listen to some music on your system what you might need to do is copy some of that stuff over to a blank CD, thumbstick or usb drive to recover some HD space. also running chkdsk /f/r might recover some space, as well as running a defrag of your HD
Hope all is well and have a great day

Both chkdsk /r and defrag are good ideas to do periodically, but only chkdsk has any chance of recovering space.

Whew; you got a lot of response on this one. A lot of good advice too. I understand you when you say you need to keep all your current software and files. That is what everyone dreads the most is to have to re-install windows and lose all their personal data and added programs
I think it has already been mentioned but you should first try to restore all the deleted files from your recycle bin, restart your computer and see where your at then. If yous still have problems then re-install windows media player and/or skype and any other programs you have problems with and restart computer again.
If none of this works then you will have to try a restore cd. If you have the origional cd's that came with your computer new then there will be one that is a restore disk and you will have to use it. The trick to it is to make sure when the prompts come up that you choose the restore option saving your current files and programs. I believe almost all system restore disks have the option of restoring with current files and programs intact and restoring fully back to factory settings. The only problem with a full system restore is that you will have to re-install all extra software you have added and if you don't copy your personal files before you restore you will lose them. I know this sounds extreme but it may be necessary if nothing else works.
I don't know what software you have but you may have something with a restore point in it. I know that Norton has this feature and you may have it in system tools or another software program. This feature allows you to restore your computer to a previous state according to a particular date. If you have this then it will be self explanatory when you open it.
To re-cap; first try restoring deleted files from recycle bin, second try re-installing your affected programs, third see if you have a program such as Norton with a restore point on it, fourth see if your origional system cd has a recovery option to save all your current settings and files, and last if nothing else works you have no other alternative but to do a full windows re-installation.
No matter what you end up doing the programs all have prompts along the way to help you. As long as you read what it says and take it slow you shouldn't have any problems.
After you get your problem fixed you might want to make sure you have some kind of system maintenance program to help keep your system running smoothly. Norton is good and I also use "Advanced System Care". Also "Tune up Utilities" is another excellent program. These programs will clean up disc space safely for you and perform system checks, as well as defragmenting and optimizing to increase your computers performance. I highly recommend using one regularly. Also a must is an anti-virus prorgram such as http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html which is free. Hope this helps you in some way, I know how frustrating computer problems can be. I used to know a good website for help in this area but I can't find it again. I am looking for it and if I find it I will post.

You can install the windows media player using windows XP cd, if that is your O.S. If it does not work, you can repair your windows also using the windows XP cd. If you do not know how, you can ask an assistance from your nearby computer shop. Hope i can help. :D

You need to reformat your PC. You have to have an installer of windows xp bootable CD. make sure that you have a service pack 2 or 3 software and windows office. Back up your important files first before booting because you will lose your files once you boot your PC. there is no other way but to boot if you want to reinstall the windows media player. It happened to me before and I just tried to repair the installation but it did not work. If you don't have the installer for windows then you can't perform the rebooting. Happy mylotting honeybeemay!

When I had that memory problem with my computer, I actually had to go into it and do a complete favtory restore. Then, I had to go through and download all of the programs that I had on it. You may just have to go to the sites and download your sofware again. I think it should be fairly easy to do.

I recommend you try to reinstall the programs that are not working properly. You can download Windows Media Player from the Microsoft Windows Website (it's completely free) and go to Yahoo.com to reinstall the Yahoo messenger (you may have to UNinstall it first, then reinstall it. If you still have problems Yahoo and Windows both have a customer support database for all sorts of troubleshooting questions you may have. GOOD LUCK! Hope you get them working again! XOXO

If you use Windows XP, then perhaps you can recovery the old operating system and it will be fine. I am not sure whether it can work, but it's not harmful to have a try. Please follows this:
Start menu--accessories--system tool--system recovery
You can recover the date when your computer works fine. Good luck!
I love China

If you have the Windows XP ,O.S Installation CD, your just insert into your CD drive and in few minutes you will be getting one window opened having 5 or 6 options to select. In that you select, Install windows optional components. After selecting this, a small window with many of the windows components will be opened. In that windows media player will be available and check that one and give OK or Install. Then it will be installed within a minute.
