I need help with getting a website high ranking in search engines

I have a few websites and I would like them to rank high in the search engines. I am sure everyone with a website wants this. Can someone give me some hints on how to get a website ranked higher? Also if I already have keywords in my tag can I add more?

Try get links with your keywords in other websites. Contact other website owners and ask them if they want to trade links and then they add your keyword link you their site you add theirs on yours.. Btw, whats the URL to your site?
