From the time babies are born, it's all about exploration. ever watched a baby, what is the first thing he does with everything he picks up? he puts it in his mouth, then he'll feel it, bang it on the floor, ect. he is exploring it. that's the way they get used to their world around them, they explore. they are just learning to use their senses to familiarize themselves with their surroundings. I also think it's because of all the bright colors most toys come in now days, they are built to attract children. I for one don't agree that most boys like trucks and girls like barbies though, I just think that's what they are used to playing with, it's what they are exposed to. I think if you give a boy more barbies than trucks from the time he's born, he will have a preference for that, ect. I for one am letting my son play with dolls, kitchen stuff, trucks, whatever. my husband played with dolls and trucks and he's fine.

Thanks for giving me a detailed respond. Yeah, i agreed with you that boys and girls not necessary had to play with their own type of toys. When my sisters and brothers were young, they always switch toys when they play. I also saw my brothers like to play with dolls, too. And my sisters play with cars and trucks as well..

Children are innocent being. They are curious and toys satisfy their curiosity.

Children learn how to interact with the world around them through play. They do this with toys, as well as imaginary play. It's their way of self-discovery.
