Actions SPEAK louder than WORDS!

Yes, it is true. Again and again, spokesmen for Islam tell us it is a Religion of Peace. There was even a TV program (Bridge's TV) devoted to bridging the gap between Islam and the rest of the world by illustrating and demonstrating the serenity, compassion, and wisdom of Islam. Now, the founder of Brige's TV, who also owns a TV station, has made the news. http://www.wivb.com/dpp/news/Man_charged_with_wifes_gruesome_death_20090213 I say actions speak louder than words. What do you say?

Boy - I am glad he is a peaceful guy. Can you imagine if he wasn't? How do you get worse than decapitation. I am not sure that this situation has anything to do with his religion. It kills me when people use their religion as an excuse.

"I am not sure that this situation has anything to do with his religion." Obviously, laglen was not trying to say this man killed his wife because of his religion. You might want to consider if your perception of the Koran's words is as flawed as your understanding of this post.

Based on your comment it seems as though the alleged perpetrator stated his motive for murdering his wife was religious. However, I read the article and did not see anything stated there which referred to this, or where he justified himself based on his religion. Are you assuming this is the case? If not could you point out what I missed? Thanks!

Their thoughts of peace is different than yours and mine. This man and his television program may promote peace among outsiders, unlike the main terrorists. But when it comes to family,it's a different matter. They don't believe in the woman having any freedom unless the man tells her she can have it. And they definitely don't believe she can up and leave him. That means he has a right to kill her. It takes some sick puppy to lash out and kill the wife of your children just because you don't get along and she files for divorce! I guess the message the program was trying to convey is very minute now, isn't it.

It does make me think Bridges TV was mere propaganda of no substance only meant to deceive.

When we have an enemy among us, he is going to put his best foot forward. After all, his purpose is to deceive. And, from what I've seen out of this religion, they have got lots of people buffaloed!

Barb42, I am not sure where you are getting your information... If a wife wants to leave her husband he has the right to kill her? This is not true at all and actually absurd. This is not how Islam works. How do I know? Well not because I am a Muslim, because I am not. I know because I have actually taken the time to read about it (Islam, the Qur'an) on my own. Why? Because I want to understand for myself what is going on in the world; I don't want to be fed information through a tube. It is not intelligent to use one man's actions to justify a misinformed, misconstrued perspective such as the one presented in your post.

I agree. Of course it is probably going to be excused as an honor killing, or some other such nonsense... but it also serves as a fine example of what Islam is all about.

Honor killing certainly is a badly chosen way to describe this sort of thing by the Muslims. Killing a women under these circumstances is to protect the man's honor from the admission he failed as a husband. Rather than face the truth, the husband simply kills the person who could tell others what kind of person he really is. With one murderous act, this guy more than undid all the work he did with his tv show.

Being from WNY, I just want to say in it's defense ...it is a great place but the news out of there recently -not too good But this is just awful. I never understand how someone could kill someone else, especially a person they loved at one time and it does not matter what religion. But yes, this is just one more bad thing for islam

Just as Christianity reformed itself in the past so as to adapt to changing times, so will Islam have to reform itself now or new generations will not join.

I read about this. This is a terrible, terrible thing. And it is a very sticky subject for me as I am married to a Muslim man. However, my husband does not believe in honor killings. My husband refuses to kill bugs. He scoops them up with a piece of paper and puts them in a bottle...can put them on the outside because we live in an apartment. There passages in the Koran advocate beating a wife. Those passages are translated differently in different minds. Like Christianity, in Islam we could have 5 different answers to the same question. However, I am unaware that any place in the Bible does it say to beat your wife. Due to the way some Muslim men have been raised, I don't they they see beating your wife as violent. They see it has disciplining her. As for Honor Killings, they really think they are doing what God wants then to. My husband was not raised that way. He has never hit me. So as you will find many different kinds of Christians, you will find many different kinds of Muslims. Of course, we still have the issue of the Koran saying it is ok to beat your wife. We see it as wrong and SOME Muslims see it as normal. I think it is sort of foreign to my husband because he was not raised to hurt those he loves or anyone else.

Good for your husband. Hopefully, good people such as your husband will come to be the major influence and guidance for the future direction of Islam.

I believe that anyone who reads this story will agree that it is really a horrific and sad incident. I can only assume that you did some additional research to verify that the owner and his wife were Muslim because it wasn't mentioned in the article. If there is I hope you can point it out for me and where it is stated that one is the cause of the other. I can't help but wonder how informed those of you who are making posts on the topic really are in terms of Islam. If you actually take the time to read about it you will understand what the actual principles of the religion are. You will also be able to distinguish between the true practices of the religion versus cultural practices that you have been mentioning such as honor killings etc. This is a cultural practice not a religious practice. There is a distinct difference between the two. I really suggest for people to become more informed so as not to give incorrect information... or at least be open to learning something new and not hindered by preconceived notions. Everything is not as it seems through the television screen...

LOL... The man started Bridges TV a network dedicated to helping the world understand Islam. His wife was from Pakistan. He had a Muslim name. What do you think he was? Do you not realize that just as our media frequently will not list the race of a criminal perpetrator when the perp is black, it is the same that our media frequently will not mention it when a criminal is Muslim? The purpose of this lack of information in both cases is to not inflame the public opinion against blacks or muslims. That is probably a good idea, but sometimes they over do it.

"Everything is not as it seems through the television screen." This is a very good point. On Bridges TV, I'm sure no Muslim would ever behead his wife for divorcing him, yet, that is what happened.

Hello Red, The irony here would almost be comical if it weren't for the fact that Mo Hassan is a depraved, despicable, hypocritical, psychotic, violent criminal -- who should have never been in a position to preach virtues to anyone! From the article: "The mission of Bridges TV is to foster understanding between cultures and diverse populations. According to police, the couple had trouble getting along." Yeah, Mo's all about understand, huh? Well, he is at least until he is confronted with independent thought and another's embrace of freedom! May God bless Aasiya Zubair's soul, and comfort her children in their hour of need. Hopefully, the four children will see the irreconcilable dichotemy and never fall into this trap that has imprisoned the minds of billions around the world. Grrrrr!!!

Beheading someone has got to be one of the most barbaric ways to commit murder.

If it were up to me Islam would not be destroyed. Only updated and modernized. Reform will come to Islam or Islam will die. Surely, Islam will choose to modernize before it would allow itself to fade into history.

what a rediciolous post! there is no relation what so ever between islam and someone murdering anyone else just because a person killed someone doesn't mean that the whole religion promotes killing! if that was true then we could say the same about christianity ! oh, by the way, islam doesn't allow killing for any reason ! ANY REASON !

You are speaking out against the outrage of this type of killing. That is a good thing and I thank you for it. Now, please, see if you can get more Muslims and especially Muslim clerics to speak out against this sort of killing or brutalizing of one's wife. Christians openly denounce members who kill. Christians mostly approve of capital punishment for killers, or at least life in prison. I'm still waiting for Muslim organizations, Muslim clerics, and Muslims in general to condem Muslims who commit this kind of murder.
