Longest fingernails broken in a car crash

So we all know that there is a Guinness World Record for the longest fingernails and they belonged to Lee Redmond of Salt Lake City.
On Tuesday Lee Redmond sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the accident.
Her nails which haven't been cut since 1979 were broken in the crash.
From the Guinness World Record website it was stated that in 2008 her nails measured a total of more than 28 feet long, with her right thumb nail being her longest nail at 2ft 11in.
Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lieutenant Don Hutson said Ms Redmond was thrown from a four-wheel drive vehicle in the crash and taken to the hospital in a serious condition.
How gutted would you be to spend 30 years growing your nails, get a world record and then they break in a car accident. I'm quite surprised she was able to drive with those long nails, would you not think they would get in the way at all???

I think its strange how exactly 30 years later her nails broke. Im sure she is depressed but lucky to be alive. im sure she will try again, who knows if is she still alive in 2039 she might have longer nails than before!!??

A photo of her with her nails before she broke?? Yeah if you search Guinness World records and then search for longest nails you should be able to see a picture. I don't know what she did in order to get her nails to grow that long or what made her decide to grow her nails. My nails grow a certain length and then will break off, normally at work as I tend to catch them alot.

Hi there Cinderella!
That would really upset me if that happened to me. Didn't she have it insured? Well, you couldn't get back the loss nails through it but at least you will get something. It can be done, right I heard from somewhere that Paris Hilton got an insurance for her hair.

Yeah you can insure body parts but Im not sure if she had them insured. Also depends on how the crash happened, if it was her fault or not. Not sure what she crashed into as the website that I read it from didnt state the crash and such. It just said that she had a carash and had lost her nails.

That's really new and unbelievable. Just imagine, to live with those long fingernails! I wouldn't have done such a thing even if I was told that I had a chance to be recorded in Guinness World Record.

OMG that is so sad in a funny kind of way. Im trying not to laugh because she could be seriously hurt but it is kind of funny. I have tried growing my nails before and I have to say that when they get too long it is a nightmare trying to do anything so I do not know how the heck she managed with them that long and how the heck she has not broken one before !!!!

LOL, I'm sure it's not very funny for her, but to me it is, LOL. I agree with the other posts that I haven't a clue how she was able to drive. I know my nails have gotten to a certain point and I was pretty much useless. I couldn't type, couldn't cook, couldn't do much of anything. And I bet she was rather scary looking with such horribly long nails. I just can't imagine.
Mine wouldn't have lasted that long though. They're rather brittle and break very easily. I can't even grow them out afew centimeters without worrying about them breaking, and they always do!

That must have been absolutely heartbreaking! I don't know how it hasn't happened before now though.. imagine the things that couldn't be done with those nails!
Typing on a computer..
Texting..
Changing the channel using a remote..
Surely cooking would be a problem?
Showing?
Getting dressed?
There are so many things that she'll find easier now without the nails, but it is such a shame for them to be broken after such a long time. I bet it'l feel like losing a limb!

If it was me I'd be worried more about the rest of my injuries more than my fingernails. I know this woman couldn't have been able to do to many things with her nails that long. If it would have been me, after I would have won world record for the longest fingernails I'd have cut then sucker off.

Poor girl! But I'm rather glad I don't have fingernails that long! They would definitely get in the way! I couldn't crochet like that lol!
