I have been learning Spanish since September 2008. I think it is a great language to learn and it is not too difficult either. I have been to Mexico a couple of times and think that it most be a great destination for Americans because it is so near them. I have also been to Guatemala and it is a very cheap country. Accommodation there is cheap. I stayed in a room at Tikal and in a room overlooking a lake for bargain prices. I would love to go to see more of Central America and go to South America as well. Spanish is also spoken in Europe. I have visited the Canary Islands, that belong to Spain, and are in the Atlantic Ocean.
Have you been to a Spanish speaking country?
If so which one?
If not which would you like to go to?

Hi Maximax8, I have been learning Spanish about the same time as you, thats when I met my boyfriend in Spain while he was working, he is Chilean by birth so speaks Spanish but very good english as well. I am learning through a podcast via a company called Coffeebreakspanish, it downloads to iTunes and is fantastic, it does not go to fast either and best it is free. You can download all lessons now cos it finished before Christmas so I think there is about 70 something lessons in total. It is a Spanish professor who is Scottish and I think is excellent. With my boyfriend he lives in Salou, Spain and if he is working i travel there about once a month and it is great there, you can speak spanish even if you are a little rubbish and no one laughs at you they help you.

Hi there Sam. Thanks for telling me about you learning Spanish. It must be great for your Chilean boyfriend to work in Spain. It is lovely that the Spanish people let people practice speaking Spanish without laughing. I will have look for Coffee Break Spanish. It sounds excellent and the professor sounds superb. My teacher is from Venezuela and she let me borrow a book about her home town.

I love Spanish, if you ever need help you know who you can come to! I am sure you probably know because of me replying to your discussion before haha, but I was in Bercelona in December. It would be great to see South America in the future. I have it all planned out in my head haha. Perhaps I will go abroad to study in college, we will see though, but it is definitely a possibility! I would love to go to Argentina.

Hi there Sugar Plum. Thanks that is really kind of you. I think Barcelona would be an amazing city break that I could do. I hope that you will go to South America and see all you have planned. Studying abroad is a great thing to do that I have done for four months in the Netherlands. Argentina looks beautiful I can say having seen a friend's photos of it. Happy traveling.

I've only been to Majorca, and I can't speak Spanish. I can speak German but never visited Spanish-speaking countries enough to warrant learning the language.
It sounds as though you've had some lovely holidays though and well done, learning the language. Brightest Blessings.

Mexico is the only Spanish speaking country I have visited. I've been three or four times. I think I would like to go to Spain, of all the primary Spanish speaking countries. But the Canary Islands have to be awesome. I would love to see them as well.
