would like to start a discussion about what age to let teens start dating. have a 15 yr old son and will not let him even entertain the idea of starting a relationship with someone. i have let him attend one "boy/girl" party but not do the group dating thing or get dropped off at the mall or movies or any of that yet. it worries me that so many parents are not only allowing but encouraging teens to get involved younger and younger. what is the general consensus??

I think that the age of dating should be 16 because your child has already been introduced to the real world by now. I think that parents should have rules for the teens and that they inform the teen about the punishments of breaking the rules.

I have a son who is 16 years old and he works part-time. If he wants to take a girl out for a date he can. But no staying out late or going to the girls house. He would just be allowed to go out on the date and be home before 9pm at the latest. I believe 16 years old is an OK age to start dating.

my parents told me I was not to date until I was 25 years old. Needless to say, I started to fool around at age 13. I didn't do the dirty until I was 17, but you have to let your kid at least go on dates with girls. If its a innocent night of movies and dinner, it can't hurt. Just make sure they don't stay out too late. Plus he is 15. How "cool" can you be if he is asking a girl out with..."hey, wanna go to the movies with me? my mom can drive us there" :)
