If faith is so important, then why did Jesus appear before his disciples?

Now,we say that faith is most important when it comes to religion. We have no proof that Jesus rose up from the grave or that he is God incarnate, but we are supposed to have faith. If proof was given to us, then faith is impossible and God wants faith from us. But then why did the resurrected Jesus appear before his disciples? He could have told them he would not apear before them after his resurection because faith is very important. Similarly, why did he reveal to Saul ? If the disciples of Jesus do not need faith, then why should you and I?

There is absolutely no scientific proof that Jesus ever existed in Palestine some 2000 years ago. Archaeologists have been working feverishly for many years trying to be the first person ever to unearth positive proof of His life. Its very mystifying if he did exist, because there were several learned authors and scribes who kept records and wrote about life in that time and era, but not one word has ever been found, not even a partial inscription on a broken pot shard. The facts remain that no matter how much Faith you have, there is very little chance that Jesus ever lived at all.

Cornelius Tacitus, a respected first-century Roman historian, wrote: “The name [Christian] is derived from Christ, whom the procurator Pontius Pilate had executed in the reign of Tiberius.” Suetonius and Pliny the Younger, other Roman writers of the time, also referred to Christ. In addition, Flavius Josephus, a first-century Jewish historian, wrote of James, whom he identified as “the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ.” The New Encyclopædia Britannica thus concludes: “These independent accounts prove that in ancient times even the opponents of Christianity never doubted the historicity of Jesus, which was disputed for the first time and on inadequate grounds at the end of the 18th, during the 19th, and at the beginning of the 20th centuries.” Is there proof or is there no proof? You decide!

I will wait for archeologists to find positive proof. The arguments that you state have not been tamper-proof. Religious fanatics have in the past changed or written false documents for their own purposes. This much has been proven time and time again.

Archaelogists cannot find the bones of Julius Caesar. What about Socrates? May be they are all made up or may be there are true indeed. How do one decide? Why do historians not dispute about Socrates though none has seen his bone or his writings? Why can't we say that entire thing was Greek conspiracy? Or why can't we say that Julius Caesar was Roman conspiracy? Probably we need to read historical methodology.

I don't believe in Christ, but I think you've misinterpreted the meaning of the word "faith." As far as religion goes, faith can mean the belief in a "supernatural" power that controls human destiny, or it can mean confidence in a recurring event or action by a third party. I think you're confusing faith with "blind faith," in which someone believes in something without a hint of evidence; in fact you're suggesting that evidence must be totally absent for faith to exist. What dictionary did you get this from?

There is two kinds of faith. There is blind faith and then there is true faith. Blind faith is based on whey you have been told and true faith is based on absolute fact. Blind faith will fail you right when you need it most and true faith will not. If you have seen God do something then you have true faith that he can do it again. For the Apostles to be able to do what they had to their faith had to be based on fact, not what they were told. Jesus gave them the facts they needed. Today most people are only being told and they know very little as absolute fact. Blind faith is all they have. Art

I must agree that religious debates tend to get out of hand and I normally don't respond either. I must say that my views are totally my own I would never want to impose them on someone else or mislead anyone in any way.

Well, lets see about faith. I can only give you my interpretation. First off, faith is the key to salvation. You can read this in Romans. If God was to appear and perform miracles in front of us them who wouldn't believe? He wants us to love and worship Him through faith. This is the real test of our devotion. As far as Jesus appearing before the disciples He was fulfilling prophecy. Jesus also said something to the effect that we would always look for signs and not receive any. The bible has given us parables to help us learn how to live our lives and has given us a prophecy of signs to look for in Revelations. I have often wondered why God presented Himself in the burning bush and sent angels to speak on his behalf as well as sending Jesus only to withdraw from further interaction with us now. I think all of us question our faith at one time or another but when someone asks me how we can prove there is a God, I can only think how can we even think that there is not. When we are alone and all we have is the little voice inside of us, do we not feel another presence? Do we not yearn to for our spiritual bodies instead of these earthly ones. When we are in pain or in need is not the first thing we cry out without thinking "help me Lord"? Look around at the world and all the wonders in it. Does anyone think that all this could have ever come about by accident? I think not. I think even the disciples needed faith. With all the wonders that Jesus worked right in front of them they still faltered in their faith from time to time. Even when things are proven to us do we not falter in our belief or question the manner in which something may or may not have happened? We always seem to find a way to doubt the things we know. Maybe that is why faith is so important.

It is true that Jesus appeared in physical form to his disciples after his resurrection. On one occasion, for the benefit of Thomas, Jesus appeared with the physical evidence of nail prints in his hands and a spear wound in his side. On another occasion Jesus made a special appearance to Peter,to assure him that he still loved him and wanted him as his disciple. Also, Jesus was able to appear suddenly in the midst of his apostles even though they were in a room with the door bolted due to their fear of the Jews. That there might be no doubt that he had truly been resurrected, Jesus appeared in human form.

faith is also believing in god without questioning his behaviour after all, god always works in mysterious ways, he may sometimes help the cruel and be totally oblivious to the persecution of the poor and the innocent, we cannot fathom any of god's behaviour. somethings are best left unanswered. but I'm sure you will find the answer to that in the hereafter.

I think there are different definitions of faith. I see it this way. Faith comes from having received enough evidence or proof. As an example, a faithful friend becomes such because they have proved that they are are dependable and trustworthy. So Jesus needed to prove that he was resurrected and so he appeared enough times, once even appearing to about 500 people at one time. Now, without any doubt as to his resurrection they could take the message to the ends of the earth and even sacrifice their lives. And most of them did sacrifice their lives because of their solid faith in the resurrection. Just the way I see things!

Faith should not be confined into those situations..but then i wont and dont have to expound, there is no point in having such discussion because your faith and what you believe in is different from mine...i have faith and i do not have to persuade you or anyone else about it..It is up to you to find out..

Jesus appearance before his disciples after resurection is not because they dont believein his promise but, because he is just fulfilling the will of His father God.He is completing his task on this earth. Bible says whosoever seeks God truly with all their hearts they'll find him, that he promise to each one of us.Same as with faith if we really seek and meditate on his word,we can develop our faith.
