when Jesus Christ gave him that promise, it simply means that salvation has come unto that man on that very day. the reason for his salvation was his moving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. dimas faith was so moving and so deep. he had cast all hopes, too, that the Lord who has been made to die with him on the cross at that time, has the power to save spiritual lives of men. that robber must have sufficient love for eternal life to have been able to do so. this is one great example that not all of those who have been sentenced to die are hopeless cases in terms of their chances at being spiritual, too.
