Now seriously. What's up with the stars next to our names?

Yesterday I noticed a star with a 2 on it next to my name. I thought it's because of the posts(I just reached 100)and didn't noticed when it was a 1 on it because I posted a lot in that day and thought the number changed quickly. But today I suddenly have a 6 on the star. So what's up with it?
