When you are invited to the friend's home for dinner,it's customary to ask,"What can I bring?"The host may say,"Oh,nothing at all.Just bring yourself."But it's polite for you to bring a small gift such as flowers wine ,or a small box of candy. Food is often brought to the table on large dinner plates. When the plate is passed to you, you should hold the plate ,use a serving fork or spoon to put some of each food on your plate ,and pass the dinner plate on the to the person next to you. It's polite to help clear the table or do the dishs after the dinner. The host or the friend may say to a first -time guest,"No ,you are the guest," But you have become "one of the family "when the host or the friend lets you help clear the table or do other clean-up work.

i usually bring something that i have made to someone's house for dinner and usually offer to help with the clean up. most people dont ask me to bring food because most know i am not a good cook (hubby does all our cooking!!)
