chicken or the hen?

Does the Chicken come before the hen or the hen before the chicken, seeing as you buy full grown chickens shouldn't it be called a hen?

Howdy!! A bit of a mixup, it seems to me. A "hen" is a female chicken. A "rooster" is a male chicken. "Chicken" refers to both. I hope this clears things up for you!
