Should we pay attention to the opinions of celebrity ?

When famous people such as actors, athletes and rock stars give their opinion in public, many people listen and believe. do you think we should pay attention to these opinions? It is only in the last hundred years that the "star" phenomenon was born. Prior to 1900, there were no famous entertainers in today's sense. Fame was help for political officers. Nontheless, today, people who appear before us either on a court, a stage, a screen are in fact more famous than many politicians. Many people listen to these celebrity and act as if their word was gospel. Do you follow such BIG man? I don't quite follow. stars should be treated with respect, but their opinions shouldn't count for any more than a regular person's. Becoming a star does not autumatically endow a person with limitless knowledge. In many cases, when stars state their opinions, they are not telling the crowd their true feeling. Many make announcements to serve some purposes. Thus, it is not the star's opinion that we are hearing at all, but the voice behind them. What do you say?

The first question I would like to raise - who made them celebrity? Were they born celebrity? In most cases you have no answer. If they are what today that is only because we have accepted them pr the media has percolated into the minds of some fools like you, me and others and now we have even placed them in the alter and you are about jump into the fire as the you made celerities have asked you to. I am all against these lunacy. Well if somebody has done well and earned a good name and deserves some respect doing some great jobs that society has benefited then I accept him/her. Mother Teresa was a Celebrity but how come Pamela Anderson or Michel Jackson ? Why you listen to them? Do you not have your own wit? Or you have long sold it for a single penny? My opinion is that give due respect to those who really deserve and not the ones who you have blindly started worshiping and you are none better than a slave. You are a slave for you do not have your own opinion. Nice topic Tudors.

Totally agree, Krajibg. They are celebrity because of commom people. For those pop stars, I don't follow the, admire them, but those talented people who contributed to this world, mankind a lot are real celebrity.

It's complicated. Sometimes I think those stars shouldn't give their opinion on everything, as most of them don't know anything about it. What does a famous sportsman, who never went to college, knows about nuclear energy? So we better pay attention to the opinion of experts in the case. On the other hand, as they are very popular, they've got to be an example, and they might as well use their fame to draw attention on something that's going wrong in our society. I don't think we should believe everything stars say, or believe the same things our idols do, but it can be a good thing if charity causes or society problems get more attention because some star said something about it. In that way, people might think 'wow, never thought about this nuclear energy (or what ever the celebrity said something about), maybe I should pay some attention, look into the matter'.

lol. i agree with the first who answered here. if you listen to them all with great admiration - all will be in turmoil. some tabloids tends to overrate the quote of actors but if you are heedful enough, many of them are very sensible. like janeane graofalo for instance, she's very smart. and i love the roles she portrays. and she speaks with honesty and sensibilty during her interviews. she should be one of the role models. =) nice discussion! =) cheers!

I think celebrities should be listened to like any other person. Just because they are famous does not necessarily mean they are any more educated or any more of an expert on certain subjects. Instead of looking up to these people as genius just because they're famous, we should consider the source and think about what they really know about what they're saying, before we take their word as truth, or base our decisions on what they say. We wouldn't just follow the opinion of a stranger on the street, and really, we know just as much about them as we do about celebrities.

I do not pay attention to the muses of the mass media and I am not swayed by the opinions of celebrities. If their opinions match mine then I might make note of that and appreciate that aspect of them. "Stars should be treated with respect" should read: we all should be treated with respect. Celebrities are not elevated beings, or more worthy of our time than you or I, our families, circle of friends and acquaintances.

I think you shoud treat a star in the same way you would want to be treated, in the same way you should treat anyone. The same as when you listern to them, think do you trust what they are saying, are they honest & truthful. Do you personally think what they are saying is correct. When you put all things together then make you decision on weather you listern and take note of there opinions.

If the entertainer had knowledge and maybe went into the movie business after going through school, had another career such as that police officer who became an actor, and also did what many stars did during the last great war, joined the military, or worked at various jobs before deciding to be an actor, I would listen to them, but if the person just went into acting without experiencing life, no. Many of the actors of the 1950s had regular jobs and so when they became actors, they knew what they were talking about. Nowadays, all the actor knows is his life on the screen and how to look nice when the cameras are rolling. So it depends.

I've never understood why people pay attention to their opinions. If I were a celebrity I'd keep my mouth shut on subjects I'm not familiar with and stick to what made me famous in the first please. While I respect their opinion, it will never override my own.

Well, in my point of view, I always felt that celebrities have always been either biased or they just have to do what they have to do. Biased in a way, being a celebrity you easily attract people. They can easily caught by those sweet words, but actually what they say is something they don't actually do. And most people believe them. And they have to do what they have to do, even they are lying, the reason is because they need to protect themselves. They need to get their audience and fans trust no matter how big lies they are telling. It just sucks. They are afraid if they will tell the truth to the people and show themselves people and fans would hate them. We admire them because they are hot and they are good in actors. In real life they really are, and only few celebrities that are truly true to themselves show these to people.

I think you should listen to the opinion of everyone, but whether you choose to follow their lead and make your opinion the same as theirs is a different matter. Everyone deserves to be listened to, how would you feel if people chose not to listen to you. Opinions state the thoughts of one individual, not necessarily the thoughts of any particular group as a whole.

We can listen, but I do not think we should take their opinions to heart. They are, after all, only human! Every person in the world has an opinion, and all should be allowed to express their opinion. That does not mean that one person's opinion is more important than another person's.

Ya we should pay attention to their opinion because to many they are their role models and would follow the same path as they do. But at the same time the media purposely blows their opinion out of proportion and just ruins everything. I mean damn who cares if Brittney Spears likes George Bush as our president. Its her opinion, don't crucify her about it. It is a free country. So, please media dont blow their opinions out of proportion and then forcing them to apologize for nothing and hence ruining their life and publicity. Its a free country, let them enjoy it.

So many people listen intently to celebrities and take on board what they have to say. Many celebrities these days seem to do this to gain PR and are told what to say by other people. We should listen to people that we know just as much if not more than celebrities that we read about in magazines or see on TV.

I definitely agree! The whole fame thing has gotten way out of hand, to the point of being ridiculous. People treat celebrities as Gods sometimes and it's completely insane. I'm all about having a favorite tv show and even a favorite actor or actress. I will even joke about it. I also ocassionally love to catch up on my gossip in various magazines but it's all merrily for entertainment purposes and that's where it stops. I really don't think anyone should take anything actors or actresses say 100% seriously because most of what they say is either to get noticed or to pump their careers. I'm not saying all stars are like this but I tend to think that famous people are attention lovers and they love their moment in the spotlight. They know that they have to keep it interesting in order to keep the attention on themselves. I'm sure there's some out there that may do it for the love of what they do and even hate the spotlight but those tend to be the stars that we don't hear from too often. I respect these individuals more than the others, who are constantly in the spotlight....

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I do not think that anyones opinion is better than the next persons. I also form my own opinions and if people agree with me then fine if not then so be it. Just because these people are in the spot light does not make their opinion better than everyone elses.

I dont think we need to pay attention to the opinions of celebrity because if they give some opinion its only to increase they publicity in public , well public enjoy seeing their films and well they get so crazy behind them that they think what they are saying is only right, well my suggestion is its waste of time to pay attention to their opinions

Hi TUDORS We should listen selectively to some celebrities who have achieved true fame and who are honest about their celebrity status . If we start listening to all ,it would end up in disaster with all confusion. Cheers Vishwas

Hi, I am of the opinion that U must be OPEN to Learn.Big celebreties(excld.politicians) have become BIG with some principles followed.Let's learn that principle in Life. Those may be applicable to us with some adjustments, what's the harm of implementing those if we are benefited. It is also true for NOT-SO BIG people, if good and beneficial we adopt. In that way their opinions are welcome! =Lahiri,Kolkata,India.

There is no guarantee that every celebrity gives important or intellectual opinion. It depends upon the knowledge and mindset of celebrity. There is no rule that celebrity must have good intelligence. celebrities are achievers in their particular field like sports, politics or movies. So I don't feel we should pay attention to opinions of celebrities. Even I pay attention to my shop keeper near to my house while he is telling his opinion ...lol
