Have you ever seen the sea?

In the UK you can't be more than about 90 miles away from the sea, so I should think that most people here must have seen it. But when you think of all the countries in the world where you'd have to travel great distances to the nearest coast, it got me wondering - have you seen the sea?

Yes, I live in Baltic Sates, in Latvia and the sea is 20 minutes driving away from my house. I see the sea very often, almost every day during the summers. I have been to the sea in England, near from London but didn't find the coast that lovely as Baltic Sea's coast which is sandy. I have seen and swam in the Red Sea, Southern Ocean. The Southern Ocean was a great fun, we spent a whole week driving along it on the Great Ocean Road in Australia.

It sounds lke you have travelled a lot! The coast around the UK is different all the way round. There are sandy beaches, pebbly beaches, rocky beaches - all sorts.

Being raised in Pennsylvania, USA, we have always gone "down the shore" (a colloquialism). I used to dream of living by the sea, and then I did (Long Beach Island NJ), and now I don't have any desire to be near or on the sea. I've been cured of any egotism I may ever have had, for Ocean is a mighty thing.

I got to see the Gulf of Mexico when we went to visit my Aunt in Texas. We didn't get to stay long enough to go to the beach though. There was a major hurricane due to hit the town we were in the next day so we packed up quickly and left. Good thing we left because the town took a direct hit and was torn apart. I've seen the Atlantic Ocean also when we went on a trip to Washington DC in high school. We didn't get to see it for very long. I live 850 mi/1368 km from the nearest bit of ocean so I don't get the opportunity to go very often. But I live about 1/2 mi from the Mississippi River so that's plenty of water for me..

Missing going to the beach was a small price to pay for missing a hurricane. Good that you got away in time!

I live three miles from the sea. I see it on a regular basis. When I began my teaching career I taught in Milton Keynes and that is far from the sea. A couple of the children I taught hadn't been to the sea. My German friend had only been to lakes before and hadn't seen the ocean. I took him to see a pebbly beach and he was so pleased to see the sea. We went to Hastings, a place I miss now I live in Somerset. I am really keen on traveling. People that live in Hungary have Lake Balaton. Imagine the people that live in the middle of Australia, like those in Alice Springs. It is a huge country and they are very far from the sea.

I've seen the sea, actually I'm tired of seeing it because I live 15 minutes, by car, from the sea(the Black Sea). I want to see the mountains and I think I will be able to finally see them this summer. I can't wait.

I don't particularly like the sea, perhaps because I live near it, but I do love seeing mountains - there aren't any in the part of the UK where I live. Hope you get to see some.

I had seen sea only just one time. I am from India. I am very from coast. I like sea coast. It give pleasant and peace of mind. I am planning to live nearer to coastal area in future. Daily walk in beach gives us very good health. I think people who live nearer to coastal areas are enjoys a lot. I heard that in western and European countries almost everyone spend their week end at beach.

In the UK people don't go to the beach much, except in summer, when it's warm.
