There are two ways how to read, one is reading with eyes, other with silent spelling for each word. I prefer silent spelling because I like to get into the story completely and spelling each word gives me this chance.

I'm not sure what you mean by silent spelling. I just recognize the words and read them. I guess I'm not sure what silent spelling is. The only time I see things like fingerspelling is with deaf education. I don't tend to spell when I read.

you mean to say you read silently and not loudly I also prefer reading anything without murmuring or making loud sounds, just lie down comfortably and start reading

I prefer silent reading rather than spelling it. It is faster and more convenient way when you have your daughter sleep beside you. I found it more easier to do it and gain more concentration when I do it silently.

Lindery, I get your reading by silent spelling to mean something like reading every word and digesting it. This is reading something like a textbook, which is done with an express purpose of learning much from it. If you do this way the number of books you could be reading would come down. Well, you will "learn" well. You would have "got" the most out of the book. As for me while reading fiction I will read a book like this only if I am impressed with the author's command over the language use.In non-fiction books if the subject is not known to me I do this. Otherwise my reading will be by way of "phrase grab" technique which will come under rapid reading. You eye stops and shifts must be very fast and take in more by the minute. Generaly if I still take long time to complete a book it will be only because I don't get to tread a book in one go.

oh,I prefer read silently with my eyes!I can't do two things at the same times,if I read ,I need to be focused, then I could totally understand the things I read.

I read with my eyes. I love to read. I don't know what you mean by "silent spelling" either. I do not spell each word as I read if I am correct in assuming that is what you mean. That would be somewhat distracting for me.

I usually read a book silently. I read an exciting book over and over again sometimes. It gave me all the imagination that I can ever get.

I wish you had not put up this topic. You know why? I am too slow a reader. I can read only 10 or 12 pages per hr. And I never spell while reading and never skip either but read silently with the eye just rolling from left to right.

More accurately to say I read with emotions. Even though read with eyes, but most of the time, can't recall the words read. Can only recall how I feel about the story. When I read Heidi, I can feel the pine, the snow, the smell of wood in the hut. But can't recall any passages or words. Guess my eyes on holiday.
