I tend to buy a lot of those scratchcards. I think that I do it in the hopes of winning some money but I figure that by the time I do win if I win that I will get all the money back that I have spent over the years. So is it worth it? Do you buy them for fun or for the hopes of getting rich?

Lots of people gamble on lottery and scratchcards every day and in the long run, you will be a loser. You could win once or twice but most times, you will lose. Most people play the lottery because they hear the jackpot is $100 or $200 million. The odds of winning a jackpot that big is 1 in a billion or close to it. It is OK to play the lottery once in a while but don't hope to win big.

Never gamble in the hopes of making a big score because the odds are against you. I don't play the lottery but we used to play Keno when we were in Maryland and rarely won big. I buy scratch offs once in a while and have never won more than $50. We go to the casino a few times a year and take only cash...with the plan being to lose it. Sometimes we leave with money in our pockets but, more often than not, we win some, lose some and leave when we run out of money. Gambling should be viewed as a form of entertainment, not as a way to make a big score.

I buy scratchcards every once in a while. I have never won a lot of money, but I sometimes win $5 or $10. I once bought a kind of scratchcalender for christmas and I won about $15 on that one. I mostly buy scratchcards for fun, I don't expect to win a lot of money that way, and even though I don't buy scratchcards that often, I have probably spent more on them than I am ever going to win. Sometimes I buy a couple of scatchcards and give them away as presents, but so far I haven't made anyone rich
