Sometimes I just cant help myself!

I must confess, I have an addiction. Its true. I cant help myself. If I see it, it usually being reptilian, I have to pick it up. LOL! We live in the country, so there is plenty to choose from, and after 5 years I still have to touch! My husband just shakes his head (I get that a lot, actually)! We have literally hundreds of toads and frogs here in the summertime, I still have to grab them, though usually just the monster sized ones now. We have tons of snakes, and I still get excited at every one, even if it is the 10th bullsnake I have seen that day. I have been known to dive off of the lawnmower to chase a fleeing snake in the past...I just have to identify each and every one! My husband has personally witnessed me diving into the bushes to catch a little lizard that shot across the walkway. And just for the record, my husband is definately the "enabler" here, he hates snakes, but he will call me whenever he sees one and sometimes brings them home for me...usually at the end of a REALLY long stick! Just for the record, all critters are identified, usually photographed, then released back where they came from. I cant help it, I just have to touch!

Animals are amazing and I become touched in the heart to see wildlife (it's rare here, unfortunately and because of that I do fear some). I don't see anything wrong with your curiosity and as long as you don't harm them and get hurt from them, keep having fun!

You bring up a good point about being careful what you pick up. I have a lot of experience with reptiles, so I am comfortable doing so. My husband keeps asking why do I pick things up that want to bite me? Oh, theyll settle down in a second, is what I say back. But I would hate for someone to read this post, go get bit by a snake, and then have that fear of being bitten for the rest of their lives.

Well, if they fear from this blog, then reptiles were just not for them. Maybe they can touch some butterflies instead. Haha.

Even as a child, I do not ever remember having a fear of snakes. Then, when I grew up I was able to keep my own as pets and the fascination just grew from there.
