There is only one way to handle this situation. Let the kid stand outside the closed door and cry until she sees the futility of it. Your friend can play a radio loud, or a TV. Failing that, she can read a book until the child stops crying. Its very important not to give in to the child, as this will make it even more difficult to train her to sleep in her own bed.

Hi,friend, you get the point! many kids here are spoiled by their parents esp for their grandmom or granddd. they can get everything they like, or do what they want to do, even if they want moon and star in the sky, their parents or grandparents will do their best to get for them with any sacrifice. when her nephew cried there, her grandparents just confort her: dear, don't cry...don't cry....ok to sleep on your aunt's bed...don't cry dear.....". and my friend is the one who will be blamed: "you have grown up! don't behave like a kid as your nephew, it is not a big deal to sleep on the same bed......she is just just 4 years old, she is only a kid...."___
