Case in point, the 70 year old woman in Connecticut who had a chimpanzee as a pet. The monkey attacked her friend and the police and had to be shot.
The Chimp weighed 200 pounds, and it is said that he attacted the neighbor because he did not recognize her because she changed her hair color.
It is legal in Connecticut to have such an animal as a pet.
What do you think about people who have monkeys, snakes, alligators etc as pets?
I think they should not be allowed, because if they get out of the house like this chimp did, people can get hurt.

I agree with your, I don't think keeping wild animals tied up in the house is a good idea. I think it's cruel. Wild animals are made for wild life, for wild living and big areas to live in. The house is like a prison for them and they get even wilder. It's cruel that 70 years old lady didn't get punished (or did?) about keeping this bug chimpanzee at home but the chimpanzee got killed because showed his real instincts. We people can't expect that animals will think as humans and you never can be sure that showed discipline for animals will stay in their heads forever. We have to remember that they are not human beings and their brain are not the first things what reacts, it is an instinct.

Wild animals belong in the wild, plain and simple. Wild animals are unpredictable and you can never, never tame their instincts out of them. It scares me that people keep wolves as "dogs". A wolf can kill a person. These animals can be kept in a zoo or a sanctuary, but they don't belong in someone's home.

Heck no! Now if they were a licensed ranch or farm for that type of critter that's one thing but just a regular person no.
In the area a landlord paid some teenagers to clean out a rental property and they teens found a 3ft aligator left in the basement. WTH does a person need a gator for? Most people have dogs for protection or security systems not gator's.
With any exotic animal they get too big and then they don't know what to do with it and then they eventually get loose and terrify residents or hurt them. Just plain not smart, leave those kinds of critters for the professionals.

I don't think they should be allowed to keep wild animals in their house. I mean the house is supposed to be a place where people live and if they need animals only the tamed ones should be with them like dogs or cats, or goldfish, etc. But keeping wild animals like snakes, alligators or crocodiles is putting their guests at risk. I mean if they want to convert their house into a Zoo then that is their prerogative but they should first ask a permit to operate. So when their guests arrived, they could take necessary precaution as they are aware that they are entering a zoo and not a home.

The chimp and the neighbor were the victims in this case, and it is sad that the chimpanzee was punished for this. I hope that the lady is fined for having the chimpanzee in the first place, for the fact that he got loose, for the fact that it attacked someone, and also for every cent of the neighbor's resulting medical bills. If you take a creature out of the wild, what can you expect? Animals can and, in most cases, will get violent if they feel that they are in a threatening situation. People handling these animals in the zoos are even at risk, but they know they are at risk and always have some sort of first aid available to them on site. I have to say that this lady wasn't very smart living so close to people with a wild animal, and not preparing her home well enough that the animal escaped. I really hope that people who were considering getting a chimpanzee or other sorts of animals take this into consideration, or otherwise prepare themselves enough to work with the animal, provide adequate shelter for the animal, etc.

I think that having exotic pets should be very careful (I'm thinking non poisonous snakes and parrots here). They are not really meant to be pets, but if taken care of and watched carefully I think they will be fine. Now, other animals should not be pets. Monkeys, chimps, alligators, etc are not meant to be kept in a house at all. When I hear about people who tried to keep a tiger or panther or something as a pet, I immediately label them as an idiot. I mean, they are giant cats that can not be tamed enough to stay in a house. I think it could also be considered cruelty to animals.

Sure I see no problem if someone keeps a wild animal in there home. But as long as the animal isnt bothering any of the neighbors then It should be all right. But if they do something bad and hurts someone then they shouldnt be allowed or taken out of the house.

I am not into pet animals. The more wild animals. LOL If others keeps it in their homes, then it is fine. As long as they know how to take care and keep the people around safe from them.

No, people should not be allowed to keep wild animals in their homes. Wild animals belong in the wild. It's too dangerous for people to have them in their homes and it is not fair to the animals who wants to be in the wild.

No, I don't think people should keep wild animals. Wild animals are un-predictable and can act iratically at any time. Even scarier when you are dealing with one that weighs 200 pounds and can do you great harm. Wild animals are wild animals for a reason. They are not pets, they are not domesticated, they have wild instincts and we people can not contain those.

I agree with you they are called wild annimals so their natural habitat is in the wild. I think that having a wild annimals can only risk someone will get hurt, and it is really sad that the annimals will suffer, since it isn't his fault that he is not in his natural habitat.

People shouldn't own animals that they can't control. All animals were wild at some point until they became domesticated. I think if you can't control an animal due to size or strength then you shouldn't own it because you are responsible for what the pet does. This INCLUDES dogs.

You are certainly correct, this chimp was 200 pounds, and the owner was a 70 year old woman. She had given the animal an anti depressant, and the money lost it and attacked

It's ok to love animals and want to be close to them but I think more than anything else we shouldn't try to take them out of their natural habitat and let them roam free so they can be as free as they want to be... =)

In my point of view wild animals should be stay in the wild sanctuary not for pets at home. Who knows it might give any harm to the people or kill his owner. There's an incident before in our baranggay which the old man was killed by his snake pet.
happy posting.
